I love Tula Pink. I love everything that she designs and comes out with, and I buy it all because it’s gorgeous and I have to have it. Fabric, books, a crossword puzzle book that I found on Amazon with a Tula-designed cover, ribbons, hooded sweatshirts, my cell phone cover, those wide quilt backings from I Heart Tula Pink, thread, playing cards from the Elizabeth line…
Soo…when I found out that she was doing a reality show, I pretty much flipped out. I couldn’t imagine what it would look like, and then I found out that it would be 12 episodes long, and my mind just about exploded. And then she asked me to design 3 bag patterns that would be exclusive kits as companions for the show. And my mind imploded. Talk about giving someone a heart attack.
The first 6 episodes of ‘Tula’s House’ have been released on QNNTV. There’s a *ton* of quilting and sewing shows on there as well, but you need either a membership to watch the videos or you can pay per video. I purchased the 1 month membership and started lining them up. I really really love the episodes that I’ve watched so far. It’s really fascinating to watch the entire process of designing fabrics, everything that goes into a Tula Pink fabric is much more complex than I would have thought. As a sewist, I loved learning about her design choices for her Eden fabric line, which is in stores now. Her mom, Kat, and her brother, Cameron, are also in the episodes as her real life support team, and I thought it was pretty hilarious to see their interactions as well. Honestly, if you love to sew, you’ll get massive amounts of enjoyment out of watching ‘Tula’s House’. Go get it on QNNTV right now (sign up and search for Tula’s House!)!
This is the Pretty Purse, available as both a kit (with all supplies) and as a stand-alone pdf pattern. My most favorite part about this purse were the pink faux-leather handles. When I was designing the bag, I knew it really needed to have the pink handles, but handles like this are pretty scarce. I really pushed hard for those handles and I’m really delighted that they were able to be custom made and be a part of the kit.
Next is the Cute Clutch, again available as a full kit (with all supplies) and as a stand-alone pdf pattern. There’s a strap in the sample but you could just easily make this as a clutch if you prefer. My favorite feature of this bag are those diagonal zippers on the flap. And they’re fully functional! This was my first time designing a zipper like this in a bag and it was really fun.
And last but not least is the Adorable Tote, available as a full kit and as a stand-alone pdf pattern. This sample was sewn by my friend Terry. Terry stepped in to help as I had a matter of days to put these patterns together. Thanks Terry! There’s fun large grommets as openings for the straps to be inserted into, and what about that fussy-cutting on the flap?
Hope you liked the bags! And don’t forget to head over to QNNTV to watch Tula’s house!
