Whenever I post my finished projects to my blog, there’s usually the feedback comments that come along with them. “Good job!” or “I love it!” or “That’s great fabric!”.
But for some reason, when I post pictures of clothing, namely dresses, I feel like a vast majority of the responses contain some form of, “I wish I could make clothes for myself.” It makes me feel a bit sad because I see a lot of your projects, and I know you do amazing work. If you would only just try to make a dress, I know you could do it!
So I was wondering…I think I’ve found a dress pattern that would be great for a beginner. It doesn’t have a fitted bodice, so you wouldn’t have to mess with adjusting your bust, or tons of measuring. It has a flowing skirt and a ruched waist, so I feel like it would be flattering for every single body type. I have the pattern, so I’ve already had time to look over the instructions. This is beautiful yet easy, maybe 2 or 3 night’s worth of work.
I was hoping to gauge interest, so please leave a comment if you think you’d be up for doing a sew-along for a great spring/summer dress that you could have finished in time for Easter!
edit: Jennifer Paganelli was so gracious to offer a group discount for her sewing pattern for the sew along, so I hope that is an added incentive to join in! I’ll be posting more details including the timeline, information of the linky party at the end, and other pertinent information in the next coming days. Come on, you can do it!!
I would! I know I’ll be living in skirts/dresses this summer, so if it’s something that’ll work with my ever-expanding belly, I’m definitely up for it!
Sort of like the AB sew along, I know I can do it, but doing it along with other people would help push me to ACTUALLY do it.
I like the idea but that dress would look AWFUL on me. I have an easy skirt pattern I was going to try ( I am a separates kinda gal). I would love to have an easy sundress but this particular one would not be flattering on my body type. You, on the other hand, are a fashion plate and I cannot imagine anything looking bad on you :o)
i am sooo up for this!! i would be so cuffed if i could make a dress that i could wear!xx
I am in! Saw this and wanted to try it too!
I almost bought this pattern yesterday but decided not to buy it and just remake my amh evening empire dress instead….BUT if you’re doing a sew along with it I just might have to buy it afterall!
Oh it is even plus sized! I would be interested in making this one!!
I would be into it. (but I do know how to make clothes! ) That’s a cute dress!
I’m in! I LOVE that dress!!!! And I desperately need to make something for myself for a change!
I’d be in… I have the pattern and have already bought fabric for it… just need to get up the courage to sew something for myself!!
I would consider joining in! I always say I want to learn how to sew clothing!
Wow, I’ve never sewn clothing but this is tempting! I’m a sucker for cute dresses . . . I’ll definitely have to consider this!
I love that dress! I just saw it on the Pink Chalk fabric newsletter and though the same thing – that is so pretty but I don’t know if I could make it! To do it with others would be awesome!
Arghhhh! I wish I could try it on first to see if it looks good on me! Plus, I’m kinda on a spending freeze right now. But I’m really tempted nonetheless….
I’d love to, but will have to see when/if you do it. I’m going to be traveling on business most of April, so I might miss out.. So if I do, maybe you can do another one later on. I’d love to try my hand at sewing clothing with some support from fellow sewists, (sewists? sewers? seamstresses?) along the way!!
I am in!!!!! Just showed it to my husband. His response “Babe! You’d look HOT in that!” So now it is a must make! I will keep my eye out for your next step!
By the way – I am Marcy, over at Marcaritaville, and I have been lurkig in your space for probably 2 weeks.
Hey! I’ve been a lurker for awhile too but this post made me want to chime in. I’ve been wanting to dive into making clothes for a while and always have that same thought – oh what if it ends up looking terrible and I have wasted all of that time and money. But I saw this pattern the other day and was intrigued. So I would be very interested in doing a sew along and getting a discount on the pattern. Let us know!
I would love to sewalong with you and make this dress!!! Get that discount!
Michelle
I would really enjoy sewing a dress with a group! It would give me the courage and be good practice for a dress I would like to make to wear to my brother’s wedding in July. Look forward to hearing more!
If the price is right for the pattern I think I’d want to join in too. One of my sewing goals is to sew a dress for myself and considering that I bought my first dress pattern over a year ago it seems that I’d need further encouragement to dive in. A sew along might be just the nudge I need.
I am scared to death-but I think I would like to try it…
What a cute dress pattern and a nice idea for a sew along. I do make lots of clothes for myself and I agree with you that anyone can do it. I would love to help spread the garment sewing fever clothes are my favorite thing to sew.
Nice dress. May be i can add sleeves and alter it a bit to make it suit the culture over here in India.

So exciting!!! Can’t wait to see your beautiful creations!
I’m with kim! I had my dress making fun for the next 2 years with that ball gown. But I’m excited to see what everyone else does! I’m planning some spring clothes for my girls. 🙂
