Monday was my birthday. I have left my 20’s behind, and now I’m 30. I’m not really sure how old I feel. I suppose at a certain point I just stopped thinking about.
The best part about this birthday was that my friend, Kim, informed a bunch of people about my birthday, and so I received several birthday cards and fabric-related packages in the mail!! One of them was even someone “famous” (well, to me at least…). If I was explaining it to someone who didn’t sew, it would be like Julia Roberts sending you a birthday card. “Julia Roberts knows my name?? Julia Roberts knows my name!!” lol. That was a pretty unbelievable day, I was definitely on cloud 9!
I am so thankful for everyone that I’ve met through sewing and blogging. SERIOUSLY. Even though I haven’t met any of you in real life, I feel like many of you have become really good friends. My facebook is slowly filling up with people that I sincerely enjoy talking with, about the thing I love most to do! And anyone who sends me comments or reads my blog, I appreciate all of you, too! I don’t think I’ve ever really fit in with any group throughout my life, but I definitely feel like I do now!!
I know I haven’t been posting a ton of projects to the blog lately, but I’m really busy working on several tutorials, one of which I hope to finish up tonight (it is *so* cool, I can’t wait to show you!). And after this, I have to get working on my Christmas tree skirt. Busy, busy! If you sew, I know this is a busy time of year for you, too.
I needed a bit of a breather this week, so I whipped up this little pillow. I have the quilt pattern for Seville by Cluck Cluck Sew (available from Pink Chalk for $8 via instant download). Now, I’m sure we all have about a gazillion quilts on our to-do list, and this was on mine. The thought occurred to me the other day that I don’t necessarily have to make a full-sized version of every quilt I like, so I thought I would make a mini quilt. At first this was supposed to be a wall hanging, but it turned into a pillow!

I just isolated one segment of the quilt, then chopped the corners off the block to make the hexagon shape. It’s a really easy quilt pattern, and very well written. I would definitely recommend it for a confident beginner. The fabric that I used is Circa 50 by Birch Fabrics, and I used gray Kona for the sashing.
The back of the pillow was just some randomly-placed strips from the scraps that I had left. I sewed it up and stuffed it with some fiber fill, hand sewed the opening of the pillow closed (I am so bad at hand sewing, I suppose I should make myself do it more often), and it was good to go!
Thanks for reading, and talk to you soon!!
Happy 30th birthday; may there be many more to come (birthdays not 30ths! tee-hee)
Happy Birthday!! Love the pillow – such a fun and unusual shape.

That is a super cute pillow! Very creative way to use that pattern. Happy birthday! For me 30 was when I started to lose track of how old I was. You know, people ask and you have to actually figure it out. lol.
Well Miss Sara it seems we share a birthday. I, however, didn’t turn 30…I’ll leave it at that.

have a great day!
Happy Birthday, Sara! I’m glad that you made it into the “front door” before I walk out the “back door”, so I may say, “Welcome to the 30s!” 😉 I’ve enjoyed my 30s to the fullest. It’s been a fun, active, healthful, and instructive decade for me, and I’m happily anticipating making the most of the 40s when they arrive in just under 10 months. 🙂 Bring it!
Your work is so spectacular. I just love all of the fabrics that you choose. The hex pillow is adorable, and the quilt is gorgeous!
What a fun pillow! Happy Birthday! Welcome to your 30s fellow November baby. 😀
I need to take your wise advice about not making everything big!! I am going to have more quilts than I can use in my lifetime if I don’t. Great pillow!!!
Happy birthday!! I hope your day was wonderful! (Very cute pillow too) : )
