Superbloom Tote Bag

I personally love a good tote bag, and with the Superbloom Tote Bag, my goal was to create a tote bag but with an edgy and unique twist. The side pockets with the zippers definitely deliver on that!

An online workshop is available to purchase for this pattern, watch the trailer below:

Online Workshop Length – 1 hour 34 minutes

This tote bag features minimal pattern pieces but is high on style! Side pockets have stylish horizontal zippers, and a recessed zipper in the lining keeps all of your items secure. Use your favorite large-scale print for the cover (the center feature area of the bag is approximately 6-1/2” long x 11” high).

Finished Size: 12” long x 11” high x 6” deep (30.5cm x 28cm x 15.2cm)

SUPPLIES

  • 3/4 yard/metre of quilting cotton for the Exterior Fabric
  • 1-1/2 yard/metre of quilting cotton for the Lining Fabric
  • 1/2 yard/metre of Solid Fabric
  • 2/3 yard/metre of foam interfacing (By Annie’s Soft and Stable, Pellon Flex Foam, Bosal In-R-Form, or automotive headliner; if using Flex Foam, it is only 20” wide so please purchase 2-2/3 yard)
  • 4 yards/metres of 20” wide Pellon SF-101 Shape Flex fusible woven interfacing (or medium-weight fusible interfacing)
  • Optional (for a firm bottom): 1/4 yard of Pellon #71 Peltex fusible interfacing (Decovil Heavy can also be used)
  • Three 14” (36cm) zippers
  • 16” (42cm) handbag zipper for top closure

The pdf pattern includes 13 pages of sewing instructions, complete with 37 step-by-step color photos. Also included in the PDF pattern are printable pattern pieces for your home printer. The following files will all be included with your PDF pattern purchase:

  • SVG Files (for electric cutting machines, such as the Brother Scan N Cut and the Cricut Maker)
  • Projector Files (for use with home projectors for cutting out fabric; please see the group Projectors for Sewing for more information)
  • A0 Files (large-format 33″ x 46″ pattern page for printing at your local copy shop, in case you would rather not tape together the pattern pages that are included in the PDF pattern)

Optional acrylic templates are available for this pattern, in case you’d like to quickly cut out the fabric and interfacing that are needed for the project. This is especially helpful for those that make and sell bags for craft fairs or Etsy shops.

Do you know the name of the fabric used in the black and white Superbloom tote (the fabric with the deer antlers and flowers and leaves)? It looks very famiiiar but I can’t quite place it.

    Hi Sara
I’m loving the Superbloom tote. In the supply list, you mention 1/2 yard of solid fabric. Is this for the straps? Thank you!

I want to make this bag!! I bought a couple yards of fake leather-pleather. Can I make it with this? I have a beautiful piece of cotton to go inside the bag.

Hi Joanne, that seems reasonable! I took a look in our Facebook Group to find photo examples of the Superbloom made with vinyl, and came across this post (I’m sure there are others, this was just the first I came across): https://www.facebook.com/groups/sewsweetnessfans/posts/3769904503089405/
