Back-to-School: Peas and Corn Lunch Bag

Back-to-School with Sew Sweetness
Today is the first day of Back-to-School Sewing, which I am running in collaboration with Robert Kaufman Fabrics and Pellon! This series is meant to inspire you with some ideas to get your back-to-school sewing in gear for your favorite little one!

Just in time for the event, you can receive 20% off all school-related patterns in my shop using coupon code backtoschool (this includes the Peas and Corn Lunch Bags, Edelweiss Backpack, Promise Ring Backpack, and Creative Maker Supply Cases). Use any of these patterns to sew a bag and enter it into my sewing contest, which will close on September 15th (plenty of time to get your sew on!). More details on that next week.

Today’s featured fabric is Forest Fellows designed by Sea Urchin Studios. You can find this fabric line at Hawthorne Threads, Fabric Worm, and at your local quilt shop.

Today I’m excited to show you the Top-Zip Lunchbag from the Peas and Corn sewing pattern, which includes the snack bag pattern as well. This bag was sewn by Tracy of I’ve Got A Notion. This is one of the cutest versions of this pattern that I’ve ever seen!

This lunch bag is insulated using Pellon Insul-Fleece, so it will keep your hot things hot and your cold things cold. This version was made in all quilting cotton, but if you’d prefer your lunchbag to be waterproof, you can use a laminated or PUL fabric on the inside (or outside!). Other Pellon interfacings were used in this project as well: Flex Foam and Shape Flex.

Tracy’s used a handbag zipper with two zipper pulls, but a regular zipper will work just as well too.

Hope you’ve enjoyed this updated look at the Peas and Corn pattern! If you’ll be sewing along, feel free to tag your photos with hashtags #peasandcornlunchbag and #sewsweetnesspattern, or enter your photos into my Flickr group!
