This post is part of the Quilter’s Mixology Sew Along. For details and schedule, click here!

Today’s post is from Kate. I met Kate when she used to live in Chicago and signed up to take one of my classes; she showed up with her Aeroplane Bag carrying all of her supplies, and I knew she was a keeper. 😉

Hi everyone! I am super excited that little ole’ me was asked to participate in this sew along!!  As soon as I saw the projects in the book I knew I had it make the Arabian Nights quilt!  The shapes in the quilt just caught my eye and are different!

While I have made a few curved pieced quilts, I still think they are intimidating! Angela gives great direction on multiple ways to sew curves, which is totally helpful and allows you to try different techniques. I also love that the templates in her book come out, this way I could make a copy of the template and not ruin the original. I sent the copy to my awesome dad and had him make me an acrylic template (thanks dad!!) this way I could rotary cut the pieces.

I used Sara’s Jungle Ave prints and kona cottons for the backgrounds, the border is something I had in my stash. The cutting and piecing went easy enough, Angela’s direction and illustrations were great.  Now I just have to quilt and bind (isn’t that always the story?!). I’m really excited to be donating this quilt to Diamond Dachshund Rescue Texas for them to raffle off for funding!

I had fun making this quilt, it wasn’t just a simple slap together top so there was some challenge, but it was a good challenge with learning, not the give up and never finish challenge.

I’m amazed at the patterns that Angela came up with from this classic block, they are fun and modern. If you are looking for a unique and eye catching pattern you should definitely check out this book!
