Quilter’s Mixology Sew Along – PRIZES!

MixologyButton

I hope you enjoyed the past 3 weeks of seeing finished projects from the book A Quilter’s Mixology by Angela Pingel of Cut to Pieces. If you’d like to see any of the finished quilts, you can click here!

And now, it’s your turn to create! YOU HAVE UNTIL OCTOBER 13TH to finish a project from the book and enter it here in the linky tool from the original sew along post. If you are playing along and posting your project, I invite you to tag your progress photos hashtag #QuiltersMixologySAL.

Any project from the book is eligible, even if you have re-sized the final project (as you might have seen from the previous Quilter’s Mixology posts, some guest bloggers re-sized to make a pillow or a wall hanging). I think you’ll want to try your hand at a project once you see these amazing prizes!

I checked in with Angela to see which items she used while writing her book, and the makers of these very same products have generously offered some wonderful prizes! I’d like to tell you about each one, in addition with letting you know what Angela has told me about each! Just as a side-note, that I already owned and used all of these products well before the sew along ever started (and bought them myself), so all opinions are my own! These prizes are all amazing!

1st Prize –  Electric Quilt 7 Software (Retail value of this prize: $189.95)

electric quilt back

I purchased Electric Quilt 7 earlier this year, and I have to tell you, it’s truly amazing. I think it’s endless what can be done. I uploaded the graphics from my new fabric line, and I could see my quilt design come to life. And now that the software is available for Mac as well (I got a copy for my friend as a gift and she loves it!), anyone can use it. I felt a little concerned when it came in the mail because I worried, “How long is it going to take me to learn how to use this?” but with the help videos provided right in the software, you can get started designing your first quilt the very night you receive it. If you remember seeing this Jungle Ave. Bloom quilt in my booth at Quilt Market this past May, the quilt was designed by Jane Davidson using Electric Quilt software. Cool, huh?

Angela says, “With programs now for both PCs and MACs, Electric Quilt is a wonderful option for branching into quilt design.  So many blocks are preloaded in their software and with a few quick lessons, you will be designing your own quilts in no time.  Especially helpful is the fabric options for the software and the ability to upload any print scanned into the program to truly customize a quilt design. And the ability to resize a block with the click of a button is a great way to get new dimensions for a block pattern you already know.”

2nd Prize – Sizzix Fabi Personal Die Cutter and 2 Drunkard’s Path dies (retail value of this prize: $179.97)

sizzix fabiSizzix die-cutters are really well worth the investment. Before I owned a die-cutter, I thought, “I’m frugal, I don’t mind cutting out some shapes.” Just wait until you have to cut out 100 hexagons (or circles, or diamonds…). Never mind the time invested in doing it by hand, but there is no way that I can be as accurate as a die-cutter, and that’s the plain truth. Drunkard’s Path blocks are the perfect use of this die because this is yet again a cut that is tricky to do by hand.

Angela says, “Using a die cutter, such as Sizzix, is a great way to speed up the process of cutting out cumbersome shapes that can be tricky to rotary cut.  The die cutter can cut multiple pieces of fabric at one time and literally cut a whole quilt for you in a matter of minutes.  It makes tackling projects with the drunkard’s path die quick and simple.  You are limited by the size of the die shape but the speed you gain in cutting out the pattern can easily make up for that.”

3rd Prize – Sewing/Quilting Notions from Fiskars and Moda Mixed Bag Layer Cake

fiskars

Fiskars is your one-stop shopping for all of your quilting and sewing notions, like cutting mats, acrylic rulers, rotary cutters, pretty much anything sharp and dangerous, lol. I own this Easy Change Ergo rotary cutter and it’s both convenient and very safe. Sometimes, with my other cutter (that you need to physically push the blade in and out), I set it down and forget to push the blade back in (which is always dangerous as I cut on the floor, and anyone could walk by and slice off a toe). With the Ergo, I push down the lower bar while I’m cutting, and when I’m not it automatically covers said blade. Not to mention several pairs of Fiskars scissors and cutting mats that I own (my favorite scissors for cutting paper pattern pieces, and this year I finally upgraded to a cutting mat larger than 12″ x 18″ gasp!).

Angela says, “You can’t get too far into the world of quilting without using a tool made by Fiskars.  Whether it is one of their great cutting mats (that come in all different colors and sizes), their rotary cutters, their acrylic rulers or just your standard pair of snips and shears, you have plenty of great options to choose from.  It’s certainly a brand worth trusting for their reliability of products and numerous choices.”

Pretty amazing, eh? I would like to remind you that you have until October 13th to enter your project from the Quilter’s Mixology book. You can link to your blog, Flickr, or Instagram (#QuiltersMixologySAL). Please visit the original Quilter’s Mixology page and enter your project at the linky tool at the bottom of the post (if you are having any difficulty, PLEASE contact me and I will help; your project will not be entered unless you add it to the linky).

Voting will commence once the contest closes on October 13th, so stay tuned for the voting (I can’t wait!).

Thank you to Electric Quilt, Sizzix, Fiskars, and Moda for the beautiful prizes!
