Today’s post is from Vera of Negligent Style. Vera won a sew along that I had on my blog for Jaybird Quilts patterns, and she has a very unique and beautiful style to her sewing, as you will see with today’s quilt!
Hi, I’m Vera – big mouth European with a thing or two for anything rainbow. When Sara asked me if I wanted to take a part I jumped at the opportunity. I first saw Paint Drips on pics from quilt market and the design caught my eye right away but as usual I wanted to make it my own.
I tried few options but I ended up with stack of solids (Essex linen) and batiks. Don’t give me that “I don’t like batiks” look! Since I like to work with what I have on hand I made smaller version. I printed the templates at 50% of original size. I cut them out of cardboard and traced them on fabrics. This might not be the most accurate method but it works.
I tried curves before and trust me when I say the bigger the better. Making smaller version wasn’t the smartest choice and as you can see my curves were far from perfect but I’m not a quitter and with little trim here and there I made it work. So don’t be scared and give it a try.
It definitely gets better with practice but trimming helps too. If you up to little challenge you can add few more curves into original design and add another dimension to dripping paint.
I would also like to point out that this book not only uses inches but centimeters as well which I highly appreciated. The book is full of inspiration and useful tips. There really is something for everyone. I encourage you to take part in this SAL and try few curves on your own.
The size of my quilt top is 45.5×37″ (115.5x94cm) which will make perfect wall hanging. Piece of art for our hall entrance and that is why I gave it to my friend to add some FMQ magic. This really did not deserve to become another training piece for myself. I’m thrilled with the sneak peak she gave me.
I’m looking forward to see what everyone else creates.
