Vervain Bag

The Vervain Bag contains instructions to make either a waist bag version or a crossbody bag version. Both have the same features, the strap being the difference. This small 3-dimensional bag features a front flap pocket and a top zip closure. This bag also has a zipper pocket in the lining.

Online Workshop Length – 1 hour 50 minutes

Finished Size: 8-3/4” long x 5-1/2” tall x 2” deep (22.2cm x 14cm x 5cm)

Supplies Needed to Make One Bag:

  • 1/2 yard/metre of non-directonal exterior fabric (one fat quarter will also work)
  • 1/2 yard/metre of lining fabric
  • 1/4 yard/metre of foam interfacing (By Annie’s Soft and Stable, Pellon Flex Foam, Bosal In-R-Form, or automotive headliner – if using Flex Foam, it is 20” wide so please purchase 1/2 yard/metre)
  • 2 yard/metre 20” wide Pellon SF-101 Shape Flex fusible woven interfacing (or med-weight fusible interfacing)
  • 9” x 5” (23cm x 12.7cm) piece of Pellon #TP971F Thermolam or Pellon #987F fusible fleece
  • Four 1” (2.5cm) squares of Pellon Peltex or Decovil Heavy (to reinforce the magnetic snaps)
  • (for crossbody version only) One 8” x 3” rectangle of Peltex/Decovil Heavy (to reinforce the Strap Extenders)
  • Two 1/2” magnetic snaps
  • 12” handbag zipper for top zip closure
  • 8” long #3 zipper for lining zipper pocket

(for crossbody version only) –
two 1/2” d-rings
1/2” slider
two 1/2” swivel clips

(for waist bag version only) –
two 1” metal rectangles
1” slider
parachute (side release) buckle

The pdf pattern includes 13 pages of sewing instructions, complete with 37 step-by-step color photos.

Also included in the PDF pattern are printable pattern pieces for your home printer. The following files will all be included with your PDF pattern purchase:

  • SVG Files (for electric cutting machines, such as the Brother Scan N Cut and the Cricut Maker)
  • Projector Files (for use with home projectors for cutting out fabric; please see the group Projectors for Sewing for more information)
  • A0 Files (large-format 33″ x 46″ pattern page for printing at your local copy shop, in case you would rather not tape together the pattern pages that are included in the PDF pattern)
