Liberated Churn Dash Quilt Block

I’m just going to be honest here…I felt stumped by this block when I started working on it, and I still feel stumped and slightly uncomfortable by it. This block is for Toni from the Mod Stash Quilting Bee, and I used this tutorial to make it.Toni wanted the block to be made using reds and pinks. I am so glad that I made it, because I am learning new things about quilting and this is good. Maybe it is just the design of the block, but I don’t feel like I did a good job, or something…I just have a weird feeling about it. Perhaps it’s just me.

Honestly, I just get completely uncomfortable looking at this style block :-/ It’s not you…because I went to follow the tutorial link and I think a flickr link from there…and they all make me uncomfortable. Maybe it’ll “grow” on you.

Hmmm…that is kind of an awkward block, I’d be weird about it too.

Looking at the tutorial block & yours, I think three of your corners (both left ones & the upper right) might need to be rotated. From the block in the tutorial, it looks like the patterned corners should be rotated so they line up with the other patterned pieces (like your lower right corner). I may be wrong, but that could be part of what makes it look a little off. Sorry if this doesn’t make any sense! Remember I’m not expert here. 😉

lol! I ljust started mine last night. The thing that helped me was reading some tips Toni posted on her blog a while back, especially regarding the corners. I have only sewn two of my pieces, so I could still take back what I said about thinking it’s “fun”.
Here is Toni’s link in case you want to see what I’m talking about http://aquiltyconscience.blogspot.com/2011/01/msqb-february-is-my-month.html
I do like yours though. One great thing about this block is it should be wonky. What Bree said about the corners is probably right (per Toni’s page), but I still think the block is looking good and will fit with the others! (they all have their own wonkiness :))
