Hi, I am Kim from My Go-Go Life and it is so great to be part of this fun Sew Along!  Thank you Sara for organizing this event :o)

I am always looking for what is the easiest way to create a look that can be sewn by every level of sewer.  Hexagons have been on my “I may try it someday” list for at least a year.  I cannot even remember why but for some reason, I thought they would be difficult.  The  Candy Dish pattern and Hex n More ruler by Jaybird Quilts have completely changed that opinion!

I was lucky enough to be using Sara’s new fabric Jungle Ave. for Art Gallery Fabrics to try out the pattern and ruler and this is the fun pillow I made.

The Hex N More ruler is really very impressive with so many options, it is not a standard one use only ruler.  Julie has an extensive pattern catalog to use with this ruler.

The Candy Dish pattern is something that should be in every sewing room!  It is a definite a go to pattern for that quick gift in need or a sewing pick me up when you have lost your all important sewjo!  It is a stand alone pattern, you are not required to purchase the ruler ( although I highly recommend this ruler), Julie’s pattern comes with templates to use with the pattern.

Seriously, the hexes and triangles cut out in the blink of an eye.  I started in the evening and really had the intension of cutting out one or two and then before I knew it, I had everything cut out.  This is easy and completely no waste when using the ruler.  I was gene able to cut perfect fussy cut elephants and quotes from Sara’s fabric without guesswork.

Chain piecing made this go very fast!  It would have gone faster if I had been paying attention and not sewn a triangle to the back of the hexi that was not supposed to be there ( DUH ME!).

I had this much completed before I retired for the night.  I never sew at night, that is when most of my sewing mishaps happen but this pattern really was so much fun to make, I did not want to stop.

I chose to do a simple quilting using Aurifil 50wt , the quilting is there just enough to make the points pop! The batting for the pillow front is two layers of Legacy Natural Cotton batting by Pellon.

To finish the pillow, I used Julie’s free tutorial for finishing a pillow on Sew Mama Sew.  It is brilliant!

I highly recommend these items  to anyone.  I am sure I will be looking at more patterns for pillows and quilts by Julie and I hope you will too :o) I officially have been struck with #hexilove
