The Fabric Enabler and Blog Around the World

fabricenabler

Happy Friday! I have your fabric sales for the weekend! But first, I’m participating in Blog Around the World! Blog Around the World is a series created by Heather Valentine of The Sewing Loft in order to introduce readers to other bloggers in all areas of the world. My best friend Kim of My Go-Go Life invited me to participate.

This is Kim wearing this *adorable* skirt that she made. She gave me the job of writing her perfect skirt pattern, but I told her, “I’m not ready for that yet!” And so she got tired of waiting and just figured it out herself. Kim’s most popular free tutorial is this Cathedral Window Pincushion.

So Kim asked me, and in turn I asked Melissa of Melly Sews (so I invite you to go check out Melissa’s site!). Melissa Mora blogs at Melly Sews, where she gets to combine her love of sewing, teaching and writing in one creative place. She sews in the intersection of ruffles and race cars, that sweet spot between her own girly-girl impulses and design for her two rough and tumble boys. Readers love her tutorials that make “hard” sewing skills easy and do-able.

Melissa spent 12 years in the classroom as an award-winning high school theatre teacher before leaving to become a full time blogger and the designer/owner of Blank Slate Patterns, focusing on PDF sewing patterns for modern boys, girls and women. Her customers love that her patterns strive to be a “blank slate” for their own creativity. She has over 30 years of sewing experience (she started young!) and loves to teach others the joys of sewing.

A native Texan, Melissa lives in Austin with her husband and two boys.

Blank Slate Patterns are available in Melissa’s shop in PDF version, and she also has patterns in Joann Stores, which I think is super awesome! I own 2 Blank Slate Patterns, which I purchased last year; the Catalina Dress, pictured above, and the Marigold Dress. They both look like very comfortable summer dresses, and I purchased some voile to make them (I’ll get to it soon!).

That Kim is so adorable! ♥ love the skirt and going right now to your shop to get your Aeroplane bag pattern. Thanks for the discount – as if I needed more incentive to make this cute bag for my sewing machine!
