Tutorial Thursday – Heather Ross Dress

I’m really bored today, plus I won’t be around tomorrow, so I thought I would post this week’s free tutorial a day early. Hope you don’t mind. 🙂 The Mendocino Dress by Heather Ross is a great women’s dress with a shirred top. If you’ve never sewn with elastic thread before, it’s really fun and easy! I’ve made a few tops for myself and my daughter by shirring (using elastic thread in your bobbin).

I checked out the instructions in the pattern, and they are very sparse…it looks like there are a few illustrations with some notes. This is not a hard pattern, but due to the lack of instructions (it’s easy because you don’t really need to do any sizing tweaks…the elastic thread will take care of everything for you), probably not good for a beginner (unless you can have someone help you wade through it).

On a side note, my Naughty Secretary bag tutorial was picked up by Tip Nut! Hooray! 🙂

  1. I’ve never tried shirring, but had a friend texting me about it a few weeks back. (“Quick, can you help me understand shirring?”) So yes, I agree with you–probably not the most beginner pattern. 🙂 I checked out Tip Nut–nice site!

  2. The children’s fashion always surprising, because every year there are new models. The children’s clothes from my daughter – who now have 1 year of age – are praised because they are very different, innovative. This is the advantage of working with production custom children’s clothing women.
