Dress Up Party – Pattern Giveaway – Jamie Christina

jamiechris1Jamie Christina‘s patterns are achievable for beginning garment sewers because of their concise, detailed illustrations.  Jamie wrote the patterns for he home sewist who may not be familiar with all the terms, so she guides you every step of the way.  She has a range for advance sewists as well, including darling vintage inspired coats.

When asked in an interview with Sewing World Mag to describe her style and target audience she answered, “The style of my patterns ranges from vintage/retro to bohemian.  I make my sewing patterns for the emerging sewer who doesn’t want to wear what everyone else is wearing.  She also doesn’t want to spend days working on the pattern.  She wants the pattern to be basic and straightforward with amazing results.  She wants to make clothes for herself but wants others to think that she purchased it from a clothing boutique.  When people ask where she purchased her clothing, she enjoys telling them that she made it herself.”  I feel that you, too, will be able to show the same pride of making your own clothing with these patterns.

I use Gutermann thread. Either cotton or poly, depending on the garment. :). Thank you for the giveaway!

  6. Margo says:

Using just a regular cotton, or poly-cotton. I try to use high-quality so I don’t have thread breakage/lint/tension issues.

  7. Amy M says:

I usually use Gutermann, but hadn’t really thought about using different thread for clothing vs. quilt piecing.

  8. Guterman poly for the most part.

  9. Karen York says:

I use whatever I can get on sale…I know, that’s kinda sad. I really need to up my game and use a good wuality thread all the time.

  10. Elizabeth says:

Poly or cotton from my local Hancocks fabrics.

  11. Janna says:

    Cotton thread

  12. poly or cotton. I haven’t broken into better thread yet

  13. Shannon Snyder says:

I use Gutermann all purpose poly thread. I am curious about cotton thread though. Is it less durable? Thanks for the chance to win!

  14. Jen B says:

The Abbey coat is beautiful, I use cotton.

  15. Catriona says:

    Gutermann Poly

  16. oh my gosh that cardigan/coat is fantastic!

  17. Nathalie says:

Anything as long that as it matches the fabric it’s fine for me. I almost never buy thread my grandmother has more than anyone could use in a lifetime

  18. Gutterman all the way!

  19. Brenna says:

Coats and Clark – I’ve used it since I was a kid, and haven’t found any reason to change!

  20. mjmgains says:

Lovely patterns. Never heard of these before.

  21. Betty W. says:

I use Gutermann polyester thread for general projects. I think I’ll stick with that for garments made with semi synthetics. I’m not sure if I should use cotton thread for clothing made with voiles or quilting cottons. I’ll have to read up on it some more so that I don’t ruin my first attempts at clothes!

  22. Alli says:

Whatever polyester matches! Usually Coats & Clark, and sometimes Gutermann when I’m feeling fancy. 😀

  23. Catherine in MI says:

I use whatever I have that matches. And if nothing matches, I see what’s on sale at the local Joanns.

  24. Alice says:

Whatever is in my stash (that came free with my sewing machine) that matches

  25. Claire Ross says:

I got a free box of threads with my sewing machine so I use these. They are Frister & Rossman threads x

  26. Audrey says:

I use whatever matches! My stash is full of different thread brands, but is primarily cotton.

  27. sunhfarm says:

Still in the dark ages, using Costs and Clark. :/

  28. melissa says:

Gutterman polyester. I have 1 spool of Aurafil.

  29. Rachel S. says:

I’m not very experienced so this may be wrong, but I use whatever thread best matches the color I need.

  30. Rita says:

I usually use Gutermann ‘sew-all’ thread. I was given some very nice cotton threads, but I’ve had breakage issues with it for garment sewing, so I stick with Gutermann or Coats and Clark ‘all purpose’ type thread.

Great giveaway (as always!)! That Abbey Coat is darling!!

  31. Debbie says:

I use a matching thread, usually cotton. Great Garments!

  32. Cammie says:

Cotton threads. Gutterman is the only brand you can buy around here, but I also have a box of my great-grandma’s cotton reels, which has every colour of thread imaginable!

  33. smeebot says:

    Mettler or Gutternman polyester/cotton thread

  37. Katy M says:

I use all kinds and brands of cotton thread – they usually don’t have their labels on for long! x

  38. Angela says:

I use all purpose poly blend. nothing fancy

  39. Sarah Jane says:

Gutterman. I have a Singer (awful, horrible, no good machine) that only likes Gutterman and pitches fits at anything but, so I’ve got in the habit of using it exclusively. I’ve replaced the seven year old Singer with a 40+ year old Pfaff that seems to use anything, but old habits die hard.

  40. Lien says:

    Gutterman for all garments.. xoxo

  41. Anna Smith says:

I mostly use Coats&Clark, but I’ve recently started using Gutterman.

  42. deadlycraft says:

I tend to match my thread to the weight of the cloth (ie cotton thread for voile/lawn) but err towards polyester for durability for most garments. Tends to be guttermann as it’s common here!

  43. Melissa says:

    those look like fun patterns.

  44. Linda says:

    I use guttermann

  45. lucilledupuis says:

Gutterman is my go to for garments.

Gutterman’s poly thread works great for preshrunk cottons or synthetics.

  51. beth p says:

Wow! I love these coat patterns!

  52. Susan Nance says:

The type of thread I use depends on the fabric I’m using. Cotton thread for cotton fabric and polyester thread for polyester blended fabric. I just came across this site and love what I see so far. I’m loving the patterns by Jamie Christina. They look simple enough for the beginner sewer and elegant for the more advanced sewer. Thanks so much for the opportunity to win four of Jamie Christina’s patterns.

  53. Ruth Dejam says:

Depends on the garment but I usually buy from Superior Threads if I don’t have it on-hand.

Poly stuff- basically whatever I can get!

  58. Montymoo says:

I use Gutermann poly for clothing. Sometimes I use Aurifil cotton 40wt.

I use reliable Coats and Clark.

I almost always use Gutermann all purpose – but I do have a few vintage spools left to use up!

  65. Alice Lam says:

Generic polyester, but I know I should be using better quality!

  66. Angelica says:

For normal garment sewing, I use generic polyester all-purpose thread, and my machines absolutely loves it! I always get the big 1000 m spools, as those are more widely available, and the small spools never seem to be enough. For pre-victorian historical garments, I use waxed linen or silk thread for all hand sewing.

  67. Kat H says:

Oh gosh, I don’t really use any particular brand! I do like Gutermann threads, simply because they’re easily available and come in pretty colours. I used Spotlight’s home brand for my overlocker/serger.

  68. Lisa says:

Wow! So many nice patterns to make 🙂

  69. Linda says:

    Coat and Clark!

  74. I use regular thread (poly, 40wt or 50wt I believe).

  75. LaLa Sews says:

I feel silly for admittingvthus but I’m but advanced enough to be picky about thread. I usually use Gutterman in the best color match.

  76. Dana says:

    Gutermann polyester

  77. marylou24 says:

Polyester sew all thread, usually gutermann sometimes coats & clark, depends what’s available.

  78. auschick says:

I typically use Gutterman sewall thread. When I’m doing twin needle stitching, I put gutterman bulky nylon in the bobbin and it results in perfectly flat stitching :).

  79. Sarah J says:

I use an all purpose thread- I have some Aurifil I’m saving for a quilt project and I can’t wait to try it! The coats in this collection are so beautiful!

  80. All purpose thread for garments and 100% cotton for quilts.

  81. meagangracie says:

I try to use Guterman if I have some that matches.

  82. Daniela says:

gutermann thread for garments and aurifil for quilts

  83. Jenny L says:

Whatever I have, which probably means a cotton thread from Connecting Threads. But I’m working on using that up, and switching to Gutermann and Aurifil.

I use Gutterman thread or Coats and Clark because it is more readily available for me to purchase. Thank you,

I use Gutterman sew all or cotton thread, depending on what I’m sewing.

  90. Rena says:

    Gutteman sew all or mettler

  91. rhondalaws says:

    I Use Aurifil for everything!

  92. Hayley says:

Mainly cotton because that’s what I have on have for quilting. But I’m wondering if I should switch to polyester for garments as I have popped a few seams (and not because the clothes are too small!)

  93. Sarah says:

Miz Mozelle is so lovely! I use gutterman or coats and clark.
