Echino Oven Mitts

Front of the mitts
I finally finished up my oven mitts! You may recall earlier in the year when I made these ‘Nest’ patchwork mitts as a gift. Since we moved, I’ve been using a couple dish towels to pull hot things out of the oven, and let me tell you, me + oven + towels = gonna get burned…real soon.
Back of the mitts
BTW, I hope my pictures are okay, my Canon camera decided to go bonkers on me…it keeps telling me there’s no card, even though it’s in there (an unlocked), I’ve even tried other cards…I don’t know what I’m going to do. It’s really annoying. So I had to use my old camera.
I used 3 different Echino fabrics for the mitts…both mitts have the patchwork Echino on one side, and I also used a piece of Echino airplanes and Echino buses for each individual mitt. The interior of the mitts is a hot pink bed sheet that I got a lot of use out of, and the binding is a nice purple Kona. I didn’t have any of the heat-reflective batting, so I used 2 layers of regular batting instead (I already used the mitts to take a super-heavy ceramic baking dish out of the oven, and I came out unscathed, so it’s fine).

Close up of the quilting

My favorite part of the mitts is the quilting I did around the airplanes and the buses. At first I didn’t want to do the airplanes like that because there were so many, but I’m glad I did…geez I’m so lazy, lol!!

Don’t forget that there’s still time to get some oven mitts (or hot pads) done for the Thanksgiving Dinner Challenge!!

They look great, and the quilting really ‘makes’ them!

  2. OMG they are gorgeous! They’d be ruined if I had them, my oven mitts are decidedly rank!

    They’re really cool 🙂

About the camera: have you tried blowing? I know it sound weird and I am not good enough enough with english to explain it, but I’ll try 🙂

I have a slot in the laptop to pun the camera card, and sometimes it;s just not working. So I start blowing air [omg, it doesn’t sound good:)))] from different angles, to take all the dust out. I do the same with the card. And its working after a few tries. Hope it helps!

  5. Very pretty. Love how you used the fabrics and quilted around the buses and helicopters.

  6. Love them! Wait a great way to brighten up the kitchen! I’d be smiling everytime I cooked 🙂

I love those! So bright and happy! What kind of Canon camera do you have? I am looking into getting a Canon DSLR but I am not sure how high end to go!

Love those oven mitts! I especially love the quilting around the helicopters and the buses. I’ve been meaning to make new ones for ages now. Hopefully this will be my motivation to finally do it. Unfortunately my sewing machine is in the shop, so I won’t be able to participate in the link party. 🙁

Very cute, love the quilting round the planes and busses. I have to say though, I’m not sure I could bring myself to use my precious Echino stash in somewhere that it could actually get dirty o.O

I love these! I’m another lazy quilter and i totally would’ve had the same dilemma about quilting around the ‘copters. Glad you decided to do it – they do indeed look wonderful!
