Important Mention: Jamie Dress Sew Along

Important: If you’re participating in the sew along, I just wanted to post a quick message. I’ll be away from the computer most of the day tomorrow; I started sewing the Sis Boom Jamie Dress today, just so I would be able to better answer questions along the way. I’m working on the XS, and I am at the smallest end of the bust range. When planning for fabrics and cutting your pattern, I am going to recommend that you plan for one size larger than your measured/usual size for the bodice and waistband portion of the pattern only (the waistband is included in the bodice fabric requirements).

The reason for my recommendation is that, after I sewed the bodice to the skirt, I went to try it on, just to see how much I would need to take in the bodice (because that’s what I normally need to do when I’m making a dress). I honestly barely got the zipper in (by the skin of my teeth), it’s snug, and as I’m using a cotton quilting fabric, there is no stretch.

If you’ve already ordered your fabric, I think you’ll be fine, just please, when you cut your pattern pieces, plan to cut it for one size larger for the bodice and waistband. You can always take it in a bit if you need to. I don’t mean to scare anyone, and this isn’t anything to be alarmed about!! It’s just one of those things, it’s better to have a little more fabric and some wiggle room. 🙂

On the plus note, looking at myself in the mirror, the dress is 10 times cuter than I thought it would look (and you have to admit, the model in the pattern picture looks pretty darn cute!)!! And trust me, guys, this is a really easy pattern…you’re going to LOVE it!! Hooray!!

The dress is finished; I may not be able to post photos and my full review of the pattern until later in the week, because I’m having a bit of an allergic breakdown. Just please know that you’re going to have a lot of fun, this is an easy pattern, and it’s so pretty! I’m ordering some more fabrics from our sponsor, Sew Love Fabrics (don’t forget to mention the 15% discount for your order for the sew along!), so I can make 2 more. 🙂

Hope you get better soon! Thanks for the tip about the sizing. That should save us all a lot of headaches when it comes to trying on our finished products.

Sara–ill be thinking of you. Hope you are feeling better soon! &no need to respond to this one either 🙂

  5. I hope you are able to get some rest, and feel better. We have LOTS of experience with health emergencies here at the Ort residence. I am going to look at fabrics now…I have to say, there is an incredible medalion design in spring-style jeweled tones at JoAnn Fabrics super cheap (seriously! Like $6.99 a yard!), but it is a cheaper fabric. So… I think I will pull a “Marcy” and make one with the cheaper fabric, and one from a nicer fabric.
