March 2024 Challenge

Welcome to the March Challenge! Every month there will be a new challenge and you’ll have all month to get your entries in. This month we’re going to have TWO challenges. You can enter one or both but can’t submit the same entry twice. One randomly chosen winner for each challenge will be awarded a $50 gift certificate for Sew Sweetness and be announced in the next month’s newsletter.

The Minikins Season Four challenge this month is to make the Oleander Yoga Bag. Don’t go to yoga? There are many other uses for this bag including what Heléna did and made it longer for rolls of interfacing – sure beats juggling those under your arm on your way to a sewing session!

The other challenge really will be a challenge for many of us  – try making any Sew Sweetness bag or pouch only using solid fabric. Our new waxed canvas counts!  As do cotton solids – like Kona Solids from Robert Kaufman or any other plain coloured fabric.

Please enter your own photo in the linky tool below so your fellow sewists can see your beautiful work! Your entry should be newly sewn; the project should be sewn between March 3, 2024 and April 6, 2024. Please log into your Sew Sweetness account before attempting to upload your photo.

Random winner will be chosen after April 6, 2024 out of all entries received. The March Challenge winners are #10 Billie and #7 Anne.

IMPORTANT: In the Linky Tool, when it asks #1 Link To, just enter www.sewsweetness.com.

I’m interested in making a waxed canvas bag. Which of your patterns are suited for that fabric? I’m most interested in a crossbody bag.

Hi Renee! I think most any of my patterns could potentially made with waxed canvas, especially since the waxed canvas we sell is easy to work with and not stiff. For example I made a Starling Bag in waxed canvas and used the same interfacing as called for in the pattern (although making sure not to fuse anything to the waxed canvas).

Thank you for your reply. I just found the sewing machine carry bag! I’ve been looking for a bag for my featherweight. My only concern is it will be huge for a featherweight. Thoughts? Could I just size it down?

Hello Renee, I have had many people over the years make the size regular Aeroplane Bag for a featherweight: https://sewsweetness.com/products/aeroplane-bag
