May 2021 Challenge

Welcome to the May Challenge! Every month there will be a new challenge and you’ll have all month to get your entries in. This month we’re going to have TWO challenges. You can enter one or both but can’t submit the same entry twice. One randomly chosen winner for each challenge will be awarded a $50 gift certificate for Sew Sweetness and be announced in the next month’s newsletter.

Challenge A

The Minikins Season Three challenge this month is to make the Brumby Pouch. This is another pattern in the bundle with minimal pieces to cut out that you’ll be able to finish quickly. It’s perfect for cosmetics, school supplies, or sewing supplies.

Challenge B

The other challenge this month is to use bag hardware in a Sew Sweetness pattern! You can add hardware to a Sew Sweetness pattern that doesn’t call for it, or change up hardware on a pattern that does. When I made my husband’s Aeroplane Bag, he requested a crossbody strap so I changed up the handles and added d-rings. I added swivel clips to the strap so it can be easily clipped on and off and a slider to make the strap adjustable.

So choose your Sew Sweetness pattern and when you’ve finished, upload your photo below. One entry per person per challenge (Challenge A or Challenge B) and no reposting from previous months please! If you have trouble uploading, please email your picture to [email protected] and I’ll happily help you.

Please enter your own photo in the linky tool below so your fellow sewists can see your beautiful work!

Random winner will be chosen after May 31, 2021 out of all entries received. The winners of the May 2021 Challenge are #29 Kate and #34 Barbara.

IMPORTANT: In the Linky Tool, when it asks #1 Link To, just enter www.sewsweetness.com.

Very new to bag making, but I’ve made a Brumby and a Connemara so far. I’m wondering if there is a way that makes the bottoms, tops, and sides more rigid, especially the Brumby cuz a bag with a seam at the bottom probably isn’t built to take that on. Thanks.

Hi Doreen! Peltex or Decovil Heavy are interfacings that are ultra firm; I sometimes use them for bottoms of bags, etc. and often slipped in at the end, so they don’t have to be sewn in. I think using them in this case for these smaller projects might be tricky (difficult to sew, etc.) but if you do decide to use them, I would suggest cutting the Peltex or Decovil Heavy minus the seam allowance to reduce bulk. Thank and have a beautiful day!
