Sew Sweetness Book Club

Announcing the Sew Sweetness Book Club!

This is a sewing-themed book club; I’ve chosen great sewing-related fiction books that we can read as a group (at least, those that are interested! I hope you are!). You can check the books out from your local library (if available), read them on your Kindle or tablet, get an audio version of the book on Audible, or get a good old-fashioned hard copy!

I’ll talk about the books and show off the free projects each month on my live shows on Facebook and YouTube (my live shows are every Sunday at 7pm CT).

No need to do anything or sign up anywhere – if you’d like to participate, just check out the shows on the dates posted below (either live or the recording of the show later on in the week) for notification about the book titles and to check out the free projects! Then, read along with us and we’ll talk about the book on the show the following month.

Schedule for the live shows is as follows:

Sara, I think I am signed up for the book club but not really sure. Could you please check for me, on your end? Today, I found the name of the first book. Was “The Sewing Machine” book for January or February? I don’t know if I am a month late. We just listed our home for sale on Zillow yesterday so I was very, very busy. Thank you for your time in helping me. I really appreciate that. Piece and blessings, Vicki Robles

  54. Lois E. McLeod says:

I’m a newcomer. My daughter put me on to your Clydesdale bag. Then, today I watched the video of your book club discussion of The Sewing Machine. Many years ago I learned to sew (on a treadle machine) in Home Ec. in high school and detested it. After marriage I sewed various clothing for my young family and struggled through projects that were way over my head but were successful, e.g. a Vogue satin wedding dress and a Vogue matron of honor dress; upholstered a chair; made a fully-lined suit for my 2-year-old son (How foolish. He outgrew it within three months.), made a liesure suit for my second husband, etc. then gave it up; still disliking it as much as I did in high school. Through the years I embroidered and crocheted, made cards and jewelry but sewed as little as possible. Now I’m almost 88 and I still like a challenge. So I’m going to make your Clydesdale bag; not on a treadle machine but on my very basic Janome Magnolia sewing machine, a gift from my lovely daughter and son-in-law. And I”m actually looking forward to it. It will bring on many firsts and seldoms for me. I’ve never used a rotary cutter or cut on a cutting board, but I’m practicing. I’ve only once applied appliques and struggle mightily to match colors, l’ve subscribed to your newsletter and will join your book club after I finish this note as soon as I figure out how to do it. And I look forward to the April 16 discussion. With all good hopes for you and me, Lois McLeod

    1. Sara Lawson says:

Hello Lois, wow, it sounds like you have quite a history with sewing! I completely agree with you on sewing detailed clothing for young children – they outgrow it so fast!

  55. Debi Mizell says:

Sooo really weird that the linky tool will take your uploads and twist them or make them upside down. I believe mine went sideways. I see a bunch more that have that same problem!

  56. Karen Perkins says:

Hi Sara, I am loving the book club you have set up and I have read more books in the past month than I normally read in any one year.
Every book has been brilliant and today I received in the mail a used copy of Mademoiselle Chanel for a grand cost of $11 AU. Not bad for a hardcover book. I was not sure if I would actually like this one but already at chapter4 it’s hard to put down. Cannot wait to see the new sewing project. Cheers

  57. Cindy Horan says:

You pick out the best books!! I’m a reader and always have a book or two I’m reading on my Kindle but still love holding a book to read. I’ve bought your Club books through Amazon for less than $5 each. I usually read before I go to bed so it takes awhile to finish a book. Many times a book has fallen on my face so I thought I’d solve that with my Kindle. The first night reading on my Kindle “Bam” on my lip/chin woke up (didn’t realize I had fallen asleep) and had to put ice on my lip. LOL!! So I’m reading holding the Club book and once I have to read words over twice I’ll put it aside and fall asleep. Your Book Club books are so good I’m trying to find snippets of time to read them. Great choices Sara!! So happy you still find joy designing and sewing! You have an amazing talent!! Sounds like you are learning to find time for “YOU”! Hugs!!

  58. Putina T Washington says:

I have yet to make one of the projects. But I am enjoying the books. Each book is a major page turner. Thank you for starting the book club.

  59. Gail S. says:

I just found your blog and book club and have some major catching up to do!! I think this is brilliant, original and so fun. Glad to find this and thank you for putting the book club and sewing projects together!

    1. Sara Lawson says:

      Thank you Gail, welcome!

  60. Daryl says:

I tried entering with Sew Sweetness in http, but it wouldn’t work, so I linked to my own blog. I don’t know how to fix or change this. I tried posting again but still wouldn’t work with Sew Sweetness.

    1. Sara Lawson says:

Linking to your own blog is totally fine!

  61. Carol Asman says:

I have read all of the books so far and liked each one very much, If any one wants any of these books I’m willing to give any of the books away.
