New Pattern: Renegade Bag

I’m really excited to introduce my new pattern, the Renegade Bag! When I designed the Renegade Bag, I was trying to keep the confident beginner in mind. This bag is a step up from your traditional tote bag, but it comes together in a decent amount of steps and requires no purse hardware.

In keeping with my priority over the past year, this pattern also has an online workshop available; the video for this pattern is available for purchase and it 1 hour 21 minutes long.

The finished bag measures 14″ long x 10-1/2″ tall x 3-1/2″ deep   (36cm x 27cm x 9cm). It’s a great size to sling over your arm or to be perched on your shoulder. The bag also has a zippered pocket in the lining.

SUPPLIES

  • 1/2 yard of exterior fabric (3/4 yard may be needed for directional fabric or fussy-cutting)
  • 1/2 yard of solid cotton fabric or cork/leather for straps and accents
  • 3/4 yard of lining fabric
  • 1/2 yard of foam interfacing (By Annie’s Soft and Stable, Pellon Flex Foam, Bosal In-R-Form, or automotive headliner; if using Flex Foam, it is only 20” wide so please purchase at least 1 yard)
  • 2 yards of 20” wide Pellon SF-101 Shape Flex fusible woven interfacing (or medium-weight fusible interfacing)
  • Optional: 1/8” yard of Pellon Peltex #71 fusible ultra firm interfacing (for a stiff bottom)
  • 18” (46cm) zipper for top closure (either a handbag or #3 skirt/dress zipper)
  • 9” (23cm) zipper

The red bag was made using an old fabric in my stash. The red fabric with the birch trees was hand printed by Ink and Spindle in Australia. I don’t see it currently listed on their site, so unfortunately that must mean that fabric is out of print. The cork is ‘White’.

The teal bag was made using another old fabric, this time designed by Echino. The cork is ‘Charcoal’.

I used cork straps and accents for two of my bags; you can find cork fabric in about 80 different varieties in my shop.

I did make a bag in all-quilting cotton – this pink bag is made with all Cotton+Steel fabrics.

I love this! Renegade is the pinto horse that is starts all the Florida State University football games! He is ridden down the field by Osceola who pitches a burning spear into the ground! I have some great FSU fabric, might have to make one and post it for you.
