VIDEO: How to Add a Zipper Pocket to Any Bag

In this video, I’ll be showing you how to add a zipper pocket to any bag. I have measurements for 2 different sizes of pocket; a small pocket that will hold a cell phone (for any size bag) and a larger pocket that is perfect for a big bag or a travel size bag. I’ll also share some tips for making inserting the zipper much easier!

You can find the Wash-Away Wonder Tape that I used in the video here.

Sara, I have your template for the zipper. My question is that when you open the zipper after it is attached to the purse are your fish upside down? Would you flip the fabric so your fish are the right way? When I made the zipper pocket I cut it in half and sewed a seam, so the fabric was going the right way when you opened the zipper pocket. I had a seam at the top and measured down 101/2 inches. The part that you mark goes against the back of the bag and the part that you pulldown is what you see when you open the zipper then your fabric would be correct, I think. I really do love the template, saves a lot of time. Thank you for making the template!

    1. Sara Lawson says:

Hi Rita! You certainly could make the seam if you would prefer a directional fabric to look the same on both sides of the pocket (just make sure to add in the seam allowance or adjust your measurements!). Thank you!
