Byebye Love Bag in Mochi Linen

Sew Sweetness Byebye Love Bag sewing pattern

Sometimes, when I need to reprint a sewing pattern, I will either shoot a new pattern cover and/or re-do the step photos (there’s always improvement in skill, say, in photographing things, from point A to point B!). I completely ran out of copies of my Byebye Love Bag sewing pattern at the beginning of December, so I made two new bags for a new pattern cover (step photos and everything else on this pattern remain the same).

I decided to use some Mochi Linen by Moda Fabrics. These fabrics are available in both dots and solids, and you can find them at Fat Quarter Shop. These fabrics are great and a canvas-type thickness. Much of the time I use quilting cotton for bags, but it was a nice break using the Mochi Linen because I decided not to interface the lining pieces, or pieces that I would normally interface with Shape Flex because the linen was already thicker than quilting cotton.

The small purple bag is just about the fastest sew ever, and I decided to use black vinyl for the tabs and handles. I fretted about what to do with the handles, but the Mochi solid in purple sort of clashed with the purple dot; however, black vinyl goes with everything, so I think this worked out quite nicely.

Both bags have inner topstitched pockets, and the large (gray bag) has a back zippered pocket. I used wider handbag zippers with two pulls for the top closure on both bags.

Hope you enjoyed a peek at these new bags that I made! This was the last sewing project that I made before I ripped my sewing room apart right before Christmas (bad idea, but happy that I had finished by Christmas morning, lol). I’ll share photos of that soon (I have a really small sewing room, but I feel that it is very efficient now!). What are you looking forward to tackling in the new year?

I’m in the middle of re-organizing and re-decorating my sewing room. Can’t wait to see yours!

Lovely bags, I like the shape – has nice eye appeal. Polka dots always look happy, good choice.
Did my sewing room awhile back and loved it. Then took it down to re-stage for events. Learning to declutter all the things I bought wanting to try many things that never happened. It’s an interesting process to eliminate the waste and work with what warms one’s heart but doesn’t mean it’s easy to let go even of unused items.

My dream for 2016 is to make every bag in your new book. Wish my luck. I have other bags waiting in my UFO pile first.

Was the small bag included with the original bye bye love from the BOM club? I need to go back and check my pattern because that looks like a really handy size!! I made the bigger size in Star Wars fabric for my BFF and she still gets compliments on it!
