Today, I’m showing off my 24″ x 24″ mini quilt that I made as part of the Nested Churn Dash Quilt Along, by Jane Davidson of Quilt Jane. Jane is the quilt designer and maker of the much-acclaimed quilt that was in my booth at Quilt Market, which is called Jungle Ave. Bloom.
On to my Nested Churn Dash! This is a pdf quilt pattern that is available for sale for $2 here. Full instructions and illustrations are provided to make the Nested Churn Dash mini quilt. For the more adventurous, you can continue on and using the 24″ x 24″ finished block you can make a pillow or mini quilt or make a quilt, ranging in size from 28″ x 80″ (1 x 3 block bed runner), 54″ x 54″ (2 x 2 block setting), 80″ x 80″ (3 x 3 block setting) and 106″ x 106″ (4 x 4 block setting). I will provide instructions for each setting.
I had a lot of fun making my block. I used my new Jungle Ave. fabrics, which are hitting quilt shops as early as TOMORROW! This is a great, quick project. My friend made her block into a pillow, which is a genius application (I just didn’t want to copy her, lol!). The whole thing is assembled with strips and squares; the squares are sewn into half-square triangles. I fused my mini quilt to a piece of Pellon fusible fleece, all ready to quilt to backing fabric and bind! I like using fusible fleece for smaller quilted projects because it eliminates the extra time needed to pin or spray baste a quilt. Plus I always have some handy for bag-making.
