Lindsay from LRstitched has a beautiful blog with lots of inspiring projects, but right now you *must* go over and check out the Zakka Style Sew Along that has been going on for awhile now (but you probably already knew that!). Tons of fun and tons of prizes!!
It’s no secret that I love Noodlehead patterns!
Anna is a talented designer and her patterns are both beautiful and functional. Her bags are ones that I find myself making over and over again.
I was excited to try out her latest design, the Envelope Clutch.
This pattern is a downloadable 25 page PDF that includes 2 different sizes and lots of options to customize your bag.
- What materials are needed to make the bag? What interfacing did you use?
- 1/4 yard exterior
- 1/4 yard lining
- 1/4 yard canvas
- 1/4 yard fusible interfacing
- magnetic snap – 14mm
- 1/2โ Swivel Clasp & D-ring
- scraps for zippered pocket lining, etc.
- piping (optional)
- zipper (optional)
For my interfacing I used Pellon 809 Decor Bond with an additional layer used in place of the canvas. This is my absolute favorite fusible! It adds a nice crispness to your fabric without being too stiff.
- What fabrics did you use to make your bag?
For the exterior I used Essex yarn dyed linen in black and pieced in a feather (inspired by the fabulous Anna Maria Horner!) from scraps.
The lining is Moda Bella Marine with interior accents of Flea Market Fancy from Denyse Schmidt and Garden Party from Anna Maria Horner.
- How many pattern pieces did the bag require?
I made the small clutch and it had 7 pattern pieces that were very simple to cut.
The larger clutch requires you to attach 2 pattern pieces together to get the full size for the front and back, but the instructions for doing so are simple and the pattern lines up easily.
- How was the pattern written?
The pattern is very straight forward with clear instructions and step by step picture sequencing.
One of the best parts of Anna’s patterns is that you almost always learn a new trick in completing one of her bags. Because of this, I do recommend you read through the entire pattern first. (Even those of us who usually skip that part, including me!)
Her techniques are clever and easy to execute, but when you’re in the moment of sewing it’s sometimes hard to process if you haven’t taken the time to look over the entire construction first.
- Did you make any modifications?
I used an extra layer of interfacing in place of the canvas only because of personal preference. I also extended the length of the flap in order to fit my pieced feather addition and used a poly-resin snap in place of a magnetic one.
- What sewing level is this pattern?
I would say confident beginner. It is helpful to understand the process of turning a lined bag.
- Final thoughts?
I thoroughly enjoyed this bag and was able to complete it in about 3 hours. It’s a great size and the credit card pockets and interior zip pocket really make it special. I’m excited to use it on date night this week!
Lovely!
So pretty with the feather detail
Oh my, this is fantastic and i love your feather on the flap.
It looks great! Love the flap! =D
this is gorgeous!!
Love this. Going to try making it after I get the interfacing.
You did a beautiful job on this! really, really nice!!
This is gorgeous and the workmanship is excellent! The crisp, clear lines of the sewing really compliment the design!
Looks like a fabulous pattern, and your feather version is awesome, too! i love the interfacing as well when I make bags. I’m not interested in shifty canvas.
I really, really love this! It looks so perfect with that scrappy feather!!

Well, sheesh, that looks weird. I just deleted my post because I spelled Lindsey’s name wrong! Why isn’t it possible to go back and fix typos in blog comments? Anywaaaaaay, here’s what I wrote, but with the misspelling fixed.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! You totally rocked this bag, Lindsey! That incredible pieced feather added brilliance to an already great pattern. Though I carry a cut-down version of Anna’s 241 Tote every day as my purse, I haven’t tried this one yet. Your review makes me keen to try. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. And that feather!
Love it.
