The Colette Diaries – Ginger {Week 5}

This post is part of my Colette Diaries series. Feel free to check out my original Colette Diaries post for schedule and previous posts!

So this is the final week of construction on the Ginger skirt! Last week I inserted the invisible zipper, and this week, all that’s left is to finish the waistband and hem the skirt!

The photo above is my waistband (the top half is the lining of the waistband, and the bottom half is what you see when I wear it). When I sewed the two pieces of the waistband together, I ironed the seam toward the lining waistband. In order to finish the waistband, you’ll need to understitch, which means you sew on top of the lining waistband, very close to the seam. This will secure the seam to the lining waistband. You can see the understitching in my photo.

As you can probably see from the first photo, part of the lining half of the waistband is pressed. After the understitching, you’ll flip the lining waistband back down. I stitched-in-the-ditch of the seam that attaches the 2 waistband pieces; this stitch will catch that pressed edge, hiding the seams at the top of the skirt and giving the skirt a nice inside.

The last step was to hem the bottom of the skirt! I liked the length on mine and didn’t want to lose much of it, so I pinked the bottom of my skirt (decor-weight fabric), pressed up 1/2″, then sewed. That was it!

I’m so happy that I made this skirt, and I can’t wait to make it again in different colors (it was so easy!). Next week will be my full pattern review, and then I’ll be starting on the Crepe Dress on August 29th!
