I’m very excited to announce a project that I’ve been working on for the last year, Sew Sweetness Retreats! Our first retreat will be June 22-25, 2017 in Chicago at the beautiful Aloft Hotel, just 2 miles away from O’Hare Airport.
June 22-25, 2017
Chicago
I’ve been to several sewing retreats before, and decided to cap the retreat at 25 students. I feel that this gives everyone a chance to meet each person at the retreat, and you’ll go home with 25 new sewing friends. Plus, with a smaller group, this will allow plenty of one-on-one time with the instructors!
Our retreat location, the Aloft Hotel, is a beautiful modern hotel and I’ve secured a gorgeous room for sewing all weekend long – large windows with lots of natural light coming in, and a convenient outdoor patio with seating just outside the sewing room!
As I’m local to this area, I found a great hotel with lots of restaurants right outside the hotel steps. There’s also a fireworks show just outside the hotel on Thursday night – I spent many Thursday nights last summer with my family watching this amazing fireworks display.
All of this makes for an unforgettable sewing weekend that you won’t want to miss!!
Your first instructor is Jenny Pedigo of Sew Kind of Wonderful. Sew Kind of Wonderful is the company behind the ingenious Quick Curve Ruler, which makes cutting curved blocks fast and easy! Our project from Jenny is the Metro Rings quilt, one of their most popular patterns. Metro Rings is a modern take on the double wedding ring quilt, but the Quick Curve makes piecing easy (and no foundation papers needed!). The double wedding ring quilt has been on my bucket list for a long time, and I can’t wait to make this quilt for my bed.
Your second instructor is yours truly – I’ll be teaching my upcoming pattern, the Amethyst Project Bag. I originally designed this bag to hold my daughter’s drawing and sketch books, but it’s also perfect for EPP and quilt blocks – great to take with you on retreat. I’ll take you step-by-step through the pattern so you can take your own custom bag home with you!
Our timeline for the weekend is as follows:
- Thursday, June 22 – Check in at the hotel at 6pm, followed by a welcome mixer at 7pm
- Friday, June 23 – Workshop with Jenny Pedigo 9am-4pm, followed by open sewing until midnight
- Saturday, June 24 – Workshop with Sara Lawson 9am-4pm, then open sewing until midnight
- Sunday, June 25 – Open sewing until 12 noon, check out
Your ticket price of $450 includes all workshops and use of the sewing room for free sewing, drink ticket for the welcome mixer, lunch on Friday and Saturday, and use of the beautiful sewing machines provided for the retreat by Quilter’s Quest! Payment plans are available.
We have discounted hotel rooms available for retreat attendees with free shuttle service to O’Hare Airport; you may consider sharing a room with two queen beds, or you can also drive in for the day if you are local!
I hope you’ll join us for the Sew Sweetness Retreat this June! Remember, there are only 25 spots available, so make sure to lock down your spot if you’re interested! See you soon!!
I’m so excited for this Sara! This is practically in my backyard! I hope it’s not too difficult for a relative newbie like me. Can’t wait to meet you in person! Thanks for this opportunity.
So exciting Sarah, I wish I could come, your Retreat looks amazing and Chicago is such a beautiful city
I just bough my Retreat ticket and I’m so looking forward to it.
Hi Sara! Just hearing about this for the first time! I know it’s late but if you have room available for a person (me) on Sat only I’d be interested! Let me know by email:

Thanks, Cherry
PS: I’m also would like to know about your rose gold vinyl that is out of stock for the hobo bag. Can I be notified when it’s back in stock? What is the weight of it?
Hi Sara I’m thinking of trying to do the June 2018 retreat. Is it going to be half quilting and half bags like this one? Any idea when more info will be out about it?
Hi Jennifer, thank you for your interest! I haven’t scheduled the 2018 dates/teachers yet, but I am anticipating them also to be in June and September. I would suggest signing up for my newsletter (tab at the top of my website) if you aren’t already, and I’ll send notification about the next retreats there. Thank you!
Thanks Sara! I’m already on your newsletter list so I’ll make sure to keep my eyes peeled.
