Glitter Vinyl Fabric Now in Stock!

Now in stock in the Sew Sweetness shop are 22 vibrant colors of glitter vinyl fabric! The glitter vinyl is backed with canvas fabric, and it’s very thin (0.6mm) and easy to sew on your home sewing machine. If you’ve not sewn with leather or vinyl before, I suggest using a denim needle and either a walking foot or a Teflon foot (I use a Teflon foot personally). Whenever sewing with vinyl, I always like to test on a scrap first, just so I can get warmed up.

I always found it dicey when ordering vinyl online – you never quite know what you’re getting, and it’s always disappointing getting vinyl that’s either too thick or that is backed with a fuzzy fleece-like fabric (which isn’t idea if you are using raw-cut pieces for accents!). I spent a good amount of time looking through vinyl samples in order to choose just the right ones for bag-making! The glitter vinyl joins the very popular 40+ colors of cork fabric in my shop, also great to sew with. I am happy to offer flat rate shipping in the U.S. and Canada on all fabric purchases (and I do offer worldwide shipping). A little goes a long way, and I always recommend keeping leather and vinyl rolled up in your studio in order to avoid creasing which is caused by folding it (the vinyl will also be shipped rolled).

Here are a few projects made with glitter vinyl – as you can see, it’s great for adding small accents or making straps with, and you can still use cotton fabric for the main prints.

I love this glitter vinyl. I’m thinking it might be great for one of the triangle shaped pillows that you can put your tablet or phone on. The pattern I have calls for laminated cotton, which I believe people use for tablecloths. Thanks for sharing this.

I purchased some of your glitter vinyl (pink) and love it. One question I do have is: Can it be ironed?

  3. Sharon says:

is this vinyl good for machine embroidery? tia

    1. Sara Lawson says:

Hi Sharon! I do see a lot of people use it for machine embroidery (keychains, etc.). Thank you!

  4. Janet says:

Can this be used for applique designs on costumes?

    1. Sara Lawson says:

Hmm, I’m not sure – it may not be flexible enough for that, although I haven’t used it for this purpose personally.

Sara your patterns make me happy and productive. I have made friends with others that like to make bags. My sister appreciate my creations. Great Directions and Great Project outcome. I love your patterns and I love my book. Trying vinyl and cork at my next sewing retreat. Thank you for sharing your gift with me.

I’m looking to make butterflies that I stuff and stitch for accents. I want to finish the edge with pinking shears. Would the glitter vinyl work?

    1. Sara Lawson says:

Hi Denise, I haven’t used the glitter vinyl for stuffed objects but I think it might work!

Hello Jan! I’m so sorry but I’m no longer stocking the faux leathers and vinyls. I apologize for the inconvenience!
