Thank You so much Sara, Im thrilled to be here! As a bag maker and machine embroiderer I still consider myself a rookie quilter and had Word Play by Sarah Fielke on my wish list. I originally fell in love with Sarah’s Improv (Word Play) Quilt and in the end, learned so much more! Sarah’s teaching style is even paced and easy to comprehend, and her clear speaking Aussie accent just made this class even that more enjoyable.
Craftsy class review of Word Play by Sarah Fielke
There are 4 techniques in this class, 6 lessons and 2 project tutorials. She starts with a nice Introduction, a bit about Fabric Selection and a section on Text on Quilts Through History.

One of the reasons I love Craftsy is that you own your class forever so you can start with whichever lesson you like, knowing you can come back for the other techniques and tutorials anytime you wish. I started with the Improve Lettering lesson, picked a short word, “checked my perfectionism at the door” per Sarah’s instruction (loved that part!) and love how its turned out. This picture includes my homework pieces with the finished front of what is going to be my March BOM Polaris Bag.

The next lesson I chose was Machine Applique Alphabet. I’ve got to say, when I first saw this in the line up of lessons I assumed it was going to be Machine Embroidery, ha! Turns out, she uses Fusible Bias Tape, incredible! I’ve seen the product before but hadn’t used it and didn’t have it. I quickly ordered though Amazon Prime and gave it a try 2 days later when it arrived. Drew it, fused it, zigzagged over it and Wow, love love love it! You could make your own 1/4″ bias tape too, and just add fusible web tape to stick it down. Side 2 of my Polaris Bag, done!

In summary, I enjoyed this class immensely and would recommend it to all levels of Sewist. Sarah offers step by step instruction for trickier letters for each lesson and for finishing each project as well. For me, that made each and every letter come together easier and I’m so happy with the finishes. This class is taught well and a true value, Thank You Sarah Fielke and Craftsy too!
