Pellon Fusible Flex Foam

Pellon Fusible Flex Foam

I am a big user of foam interfacing in my bag patterns. My favorite thing about using foam interfacing is that it is very easy to sew with and it makes bags look incredibly professional. I can’t think of a bag that I have made in the last 2-1/2 years that I didn’t use foam interfacing on. By Annie’s Soft and Stable is a beautiful product that I used bolts upon bolts of. Pellon contacted me a few weeks ago and asked if I wanted to try their #FF77 Fusible Flex Foam. I have had a great relationship with Pellon for many years, and so it came as no surprise that they asked. I talk about Pellon products in both of my books and during my lectures; I’m not a paid spokesperson, anything I say is my honest opinion. I’ve also been receiving e-mails lately from people wanting to know what the deal is with the Fusible Flex Foam, so I wanted to let you know my opinion. I received the 1-sided Fusible Flex Foam to try, but there is also a 2-sided product as well.

Pellon Fusible Flex Foam

I had one caveat in that I would need to test out the interfacing before I used it in a bag. Fusible interfacings (occasionally but not always) can sometimes make fabrics look “crinkly” in the finished product. They look great when you iron the fabric to the interfacing, but during the midst of assembling the bag (mainly, wrangling the bag through your sewing machine throat and turning the bag right side out through the lining at the end), something just happens – the fusible can partially detach from the fabric and no amount of ironing can fix things. So I received my Fusible Flex Foam in the mail and was a little frightened to test it out, so I put it to the side for a few days. What if I didn’t like the results? It’s a hard thing to have to tell someone that you don’t like their product.

I finally decided to try it out. I cut a small 5″ square of interfacing and a 5″ square of quilting cotton fabric (which, by the way, I would recommend doing if you are trying out any interfacing for the first time!). I fused the fabric to the interfacing, and I immediately noticed that it fused the quickest out of any type of fusible I’d used before (even Shape Flex). So far so good, the fabric looked nice and smooth. And then came my little test…I wadded up that square into a ball as tightly as I could. It looked wrinkled, which is to be expected. Then I ironed that little square flat and held my breath. I was very pleased to see that the swatch of fabric looked just as smooth as when I first ironed it to the interfacing. It looked like it had passed my initial test, and I was ready to use it in a bag.

Sew Sweetness Ultimate Art Organizer

So here’s my first attempt at using the Fusible Flex Foam (1-sided). This is an upgrade on my Creative Maker Supply Case pattern. I wanted something with many dividers (my particular sample will hold 71 colored pencils!). I am calling this new pattern the Ultimate Art Organizer, and it is with my pattern testers right now. I wanted to keep the two patterns separate as there is a lot more work involved with the Ultimate Art Organizer (but, may I insert that it’s well worth the effort!). I made this sample using Tula Pink’s new line of fabric called ‘Eden’.

Sew Sweetness Ultimate Art Organizer

I used the Fusible Flex Foam for the exterior fabrics (the dark purple tiger print). For the inside dividers, I used a combination of Pellon Shape Flex and Pellon Peltex #71 fusible interfacing, to make the dividers really sturdy. One thing I noticed about the Fusible Flex Foam that I had overlooked when I first tested it is that it is almost doubled in thickness compared to the regular Flex Foam (the sew-in kind, which is about 1/8″ thick). I kind of liked the added thickness.

Besides the art organizer, I also made my daughter a tote bag for school and found it to be nice and sturdy.

Pellon Fusible Flex Foam is available on Amazon, Overstock.com, and will be available shortly at Hancock’s and Joann’s. Initially it will be available as a 20″ wide product, but the 60″ wide rolls will be out soon too.

So I know the question you are asking is…which product do I prefer, Soft and Stable or Flex Foam? I will continue to use both, depending on the project and what kind of look I am going for. That’s really an honest answer! I would suggest giving the new Pellon Flex Foam a try, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

  9. Cheryl Wilson says:

SF 101 is my very favorite pellon product. I would never have ventured out to try it, had I not been making one of your bags. I love it for all my sewing! I would love to try pellon flex foam.. Thank you for reviewing.

  10. Rhonda Hunter says:

I love SF 101, but at times have had the same wrinkling problems as you mentioned in the review. I also use By Annie’s, but will definitely try the Pellon fusible flex foam.

  17. terriavidreader says:

I’ve used the fusible but I’d love to win this and give it a try.

  18. Dianne Schuring says:

I like pellon 911 for tshirt quilts. I have used thermolam in several bags. I will be anxious to try this flexible foam. I purchased a pattern for an I-pad stand and it called for a brand of flexible foam that, evidently, is no longer manufactured, so I have been searching for a replacement foam. I would love to try this! Thanks for sharing your honest and professional opinion! You have helped me tremendously with many of your other posts!

  19. DianeY says:

Well, my most used Pellon is Shape Flex, which I try to buy by the bolt when JoAnn’s has it on sale. I have to buy it online since we don’t have JoAnns in Hawaii. I really want to try the fusible foam and would love to win it to try it as I will probably have to otherwise buy it online and that’s sometimes a big commitment because of the shipping!

  20. Jodi Wolff says:

I love Love Shape Flex and I have been wanting to try the foam

  21. Jude Jones says:

i love annie’s but would love to try this product as well. thank you for the give away!

  22. Genee Davis says:

I’m so happy you loved their product! I hope there is an outpouring of this product particularly at JoAnns or Walmart and I’ll tell you why…….I also use foam cores in my bags and other projects, but have to order it and quite expensive! I unfortunately live in an area I must drive an hour and “hope” JoAnns has the Pellon I need available. Our Walmart has a fabric dept. But not much luck there. My LQS may have it if she ordered it at market…..highly unlikely because she doesnt tend to order much than traditional stules and products. Im trying to change her mind on that! Ha ha. She’s opening a retreat center this fall and I’m hoping to create a niche for things like this and more popular styles (modern or trending)
Anyway…..thank you for your product review and will keep my eyes peeled for it and stock up! Thank you Pellon! I love your products!

  23. Joanna says:

I use SF101 a lot but also really want to try the foam!

  24. Jan S. says:

I use Pellon all the time, different weights for shirt facings or colors, heavier ones for bags or other projects. I would love to try this new flexfoam, it looks perfect for bags or fabric baskets.

  25. Genevieve says:

I’Ve used the fusible fleece and also the stabilizers but would to an opportunity to try this fusible foam.

  26. Becks says:

I use a shape flex quite a bit and have been so curious about the flex foam! I would love to try it out!

  27. Shaneka Giscombe says:

    I love shape flex

  28. Karen Dolfi says:

Your work is always so beautiful, and I really look for recommendations from the professionals. Excited to giving it try for my next project!

  29. Katina Lindsey says:

I stumbled into bag making on accident- started as a personal costume maker for my kids! – but have always felt like I was missing some aspect. This would be new to me but I know it will open up so many more creations! Very interested in trying the one sided fusible interfacing and see what happens! Thanks for sharing and keeping us inspired!

  30. Robyn Miller says:

I haven’t used a huge variety of interfacing yet, since I am primarily a quilter. I have made a few bags though, and I must say that I really like SF-101 for giving just a little extra body and durability to fabric. I also have enjoyed 926 and 50. I haven’t tried Flex Foam yet, or Soft & Stable… even though I would like to. The only foam stabilizer I have used so far is Bosal’s In-R double sided fusible, which I used for a large quilted tote and put the scraps in coasters. I bought a new pack of Bosal last week in preparation to make a wine tote… but now I am seriously thinking I might pick up some of this new fusible Flex Foam and compare the two products. The Bosal was nice to work with, but it is a bit floppy in the large tote…

  31. Pam Vikingson says:

    I love Shape Flex 101, fusible fleece 987 F and Peltex 71 F.

  32. Susan Brown says:

I have been using soft and stable for a long time. I agree the bags look professional . I am trying out Bosal in-r-form plus and find it to be easier to use because it is thinner. How would u compare the thickness of soft and stable to the new pellon product? Have u used Bosal products?

    1. Jaime says:

In order to try out foam interfacing, I grabbed a package of bosal, non fusible. I fell in love with it and ordered a bolt of Pelion one-side fusible thinking it would be even better. I had some wrinkling after birthing my bag and think I like the bosal non fusible better. But grab a yard & try it out. I’m sure there’s a bit of personal preference mixed in there.

  33. Shaena says:

I was actually quite disappointed with the flex foam. By Annie’s is by far a superior product in my opinion if you’re looking for a product to hold shape. I’ve made tons of fabric buckets. Soft and stable makes a nice bucket that hold shape well. However, when I made them with flex foam, it was floppy and held no structure at all. Flex foam could be an alternative depending on what you want your outcome to be so perhaps like Sara said, I will use both but mostly bc of cost.

  34. Melissa says:

I used 71F in an hour basket and it turned out amazing. Definitely a new fave.

  35. Pat Darden says:

My favorite Pellon product is SF101. I really like Soft and Stable and would love to try the new Pellon Fusible Foam.

  36. Rebecca Wilson says:

It would be hard to choose just one Pellon. I use Pellon all the time. When I need interfacing, I always choose Pellon.

  37. Up to now, my favorite Pellon product is SF 101, but I am really intrigued with this new fusible flex foam. Can’t wait to try it. Thanks for the chance to win some.

  38. Judy Stroup says:

My favorite Pellon product is Shape Flex 101. Thank you for your candid review. I’m not sure about the thickness–sometimes I think even Soft and Stable makes my bags too puffy. I look forward to trying Pellon’s new foam!!

  39. Debra Scheibel says:

I would like to try this Pellon foam interfacing.

  40. Colleen says:

SF 101 is my go to Pellon product. I’ve wondered about their version of the foam since I read they were going to start producing it. Nice to know there is a place for both Pellon and Soft and Stable.

  41. Anita says:

I realy have only used Pelion and shape flex interfacings. I love shape flex but it is pricey. I would like to try Annie’s interfacings but that would require ordering them ahead of time…..

  42. KathyCummings says:

I would like to make a bag…I’m a quilter… This product looks great. Thank you.

  43. Vicki says:

I use 931F for bags & pouches. Id really love to try these new fusible products!

  44. Kathryn Mcgrew says:

I use Pellon 987. I would live to try Pellon FF7.

  45. Cathy K says:

Hi Sara, first of all, I have to say that the Pellon people are great to work with; they supplied some samples for a retreat I coordinated a couple years ago. The samples were well received. I love their products and use lots of them on a regular basis. I particularly like their fusible fleece and the Shape-flex. I can’t wait to try out the new foam!!!

  46. AudreyB says:

I’ve used several Pellon products but probably Shape Flex the most. Thanks for the review and I’d love to give the foam a try

  47. Ruthann says:

I’ve used Pellon fusible batting for bags and SF101 to give quilting weight fabric more substance when making a bag. I would love to try the Pellong Fusible Flex foam and have just the perfect project for it….a new bag and a notepad cover. Plus that organizer pattern that is currently in testing phase looks fantastic! Thank you for the chance to win!

  48. Kacey W. says:

i’ve been using a bunch of shape flex recently for t-shirt quilts! would love to give them foam a try – I have an aeroplane bag pattern that i need to sew up!

  49. Stitchgirl78 says:

I’ve only worked with By Annie’s Soft and Stable, and really like it. Would love the opportunity to work with Pellon’s new Fusible Flex Foam!

  50. umma says:

I have a guilty admission, I have no item what Pellon product is my favorite. I always seem to loose the labels and those inserts that come with them inevitably always fall out. I have an entire drawer of interfacing with not a single label on one. I judge which I need by feel and the look of the interfacing, along with remembering products I’ve created using each one.

  51. Tracy H says:

I love Annie’s so I’m very happy that Pellon has a product now and am excited to try it. I love Pellon’s fusible fleece. Thanks for the giveaway.

  52. Elnora says:

Thank you so much for sharing about this! I love using foam interfacing in bags, too, so I’m keen to give this one a try.

My current favorite Pellon product is Shape Flex 101. I use a lot of it!

  53. hosta100mg says:

I have been using Soft & Stable in my big tote bags and have used the Flex Foam Sew in. (should have ordered the fusible, but I hadn’t read this blog yet!)
I have also just found Bosal, a fusible that is only 1/4 inch thick and am trying it in my first purse and so far I really like it. I am not finished yet, so don’t know how the corners will be, but it is excellent for a smaller project I think, rather than the thickness of Soft & Stable and Flex Foam.

  54. Dawn Jones says:

I am new to sewing and haven’t used this yet, I have been afraid of any of these products. I should give it a try though. Have a great day.

  55. Marlene says:

I am working on projects for the upcoming holiday season and this will be the perfect time to try their flex foam. I have used various Pellon products over the years and this looks to be a good addition to their line.

  56. LINDA says:

GREAT PRODUCTS! A MUST FOR OUR BAGS! THANKS FOR SHARING!

  57. Kathy Smothers says:

Sounds like a very useful item to use in many projects where you really need soft and firm. Would Love it!

  58. Liz says:

I would love to give these a try! I usually do garment sewing, so I’ve never worked with these. Your work has inspired me to try some bags recently!

  59. Margo says:

I like the shapeflex and 911FF. Both of those are great to use in bags!

  60. Wendy says:

I don’t think we can get Prllon products over here, i’ve never seen them. I’d like to try the flex foam as By Annies is ridiculously expensive and scarce in the uk

  61. primuscraftJoanna says:

I just used P77F for the first time and am amazed at the professional look!

  62. KarenAnn Harvey says:

Loved your article on the Pellon Foam Fusible Interfacing. I have used just regular Pellon in my garment sewing however, I have been branching out into organizers, bags and electronic device sleeves. I see using this in my future in the electronic device sleeves for sure.

  63. Erica says:

I would love to try these (I need a new diaper bag!). SF101 is my favorite Pellon product

  64. Ruth Hurley says:

I recently bought Bosal In-R-Form Plus double sided fusible foam stabilizer to try but would love to try the new Pellon product as Pellon products are more often found in my local stores.

  65. Theresa Baker says:

Ive used shape flex and have been very happy with the results, would love to give this fusible one a try on a bag Im making for a friend!

  66. Sharon T says:

  68. Dana says:

Wow! I’m dying to try this! Where in the world can I buy a bolt of it? I can’t find it anywhere

  69. Jane Blakesley says:

I’ve used 911 fusible featherweight for many clothing items and the thermal batting for table runners and oven mitts is great. I want to make a winter purse. This would be terrific to try. Thank you

  70. quiltnqueen says:

I love to piece quilts and haven’t ventured into making anything else (I don’t care for garment sewing). I have decided to try making a tote and have a simple pattern. I just ordered some soft and stable and am waiting for it to arrive.

If my tote turns out, my next endeavor will be to make one with a zipper (so afraid of zippers :).

In my research, I have found another product that is similar to soft and stable, Sew Lazy Stiff Stuff. Have you ever used it? I was going to try it next, however, if I can find this Pellon Foam Fusible, I’ll try it 🙂

  71. Callie says:

I would love to try this. Seems like a great product.

  72. Anny says:

I’m so excited to try this. I’ve been using Pellon 987F.

  73. Cindy S. says:

I like Pellon products, and would love the sample pack! Thanks for the giveaway!

  74. I have tried several Pellon interfacings and it depends on the project which I use. I probably use more of the double sided than anything else and love it. Yet, I would be open to try any kind of stabilizer. I do hand embroidery, quilting, applique, totes and purses and some clothing. I stopped at JoAnns yesterday and no one knew what I was asking about the fusible foam. Well, now I understand but will keep checking because I am excited to give it a try. Thanks for sharing the information and your great project! Have a wonderful creative day! [email protected]

  75. Lindsay says:

SF101 is my go to interfacing! I’d love to try this foam. I’ve shyed away from soft and stable for a few reasons but love that this Pelion product is fusible

  77. Laura says:

  79. Sarah J. says:

I’ve use d a fair amount of the double sided fusible WunderUnder for crafts and applique!

I have used Pellon products for years in garment sewing. This sample pack would be a great way to try out a new product. Thanks for your honest review.

  81. Lisa Marie says:

I don’t use a lot of interfacing as I make mostly quilts, but all the Pellon products I’ve tried have been good. This fusible foam sounds wonderful!

  82. Donna W says:

Shape Flex 101, fusible fleece 987 F and Peltex 71 F are some of my favorites

  83. Tatiana says:

I would love to try Pellon sew-in interfacing that you mentioned for a tote bag or a make-up pouch. Thank you!

  84. Bekki says:

First of all -*squeal* at your new pattern!! Ive never tried pellon as I’ve never seen it over here in the uk. I’d like to try the foam though I don’t know if I trust the fusible type. Maybe I need to experiment with it like you did.

  85. Teri says:

I can’t wait to try. I am ordering it today. Thanks for the review,,,,

  86. Dana Womack says:

I have never used that interfacing would love to try it.1

  87. Collette Batten says:

Pellon SF101 Shape Flex All purpose Woven fusible interfacing that comes in white and black. I would love to win this so I may give it a go…How soon will it be in stores?

  88. teri says:

My favorite Pellon is probably featherweight which I can use in quilting as well as garments. This foam looks intriguing and I am looking forward to using it to make a fabric basket.

  89. Peggy Gibbs says:

I’ve used Pelon interfacing before for some of my projects and I really like it. Would love to try this new product.

  90. Anke says:

That might sound a bit diplomatic, but I am VERY curious to try the flex foam. Over here in Germany it is a bit of a pain to get a good stabilizer for a reasonable prize and so it would be really great to get hands on on some yeards for not a hell of money.

  91. Delaine says:

I haven’t used any Pellon products yet, but I would love to try the fusible flex foam. Thanks!

  92. ybat says:

I use their lightweight interfacing the most. I like it for bag linings when I want my bags to have more body and as interfacing for kids clothes.

  93. Lori Smanski says:

thanks for sharing your trying this pellon. your bag is just wonderful. I have never used pellon before but would love to make a bag with it someday when I have time to make something for myself, lol

  94. Sara says:

I’d love to try it! I have bought Peltex by the bolt, so I probably use that the most.

My favorite interfacing is 101, but I would love to try the one-sided Fusible Flex Foam!

  96. Kris McInnes says:

I have been using Pellon products for years, and just purchased their TP970 to use in your Park West bag pattern. I wish I had known about this product befor I purchased it as I don’t like those finished-product wrinkles either! Would love to try their new products!

  97. Kay says:

I’ve used SF101 a couple of times but I tend to not use interfacing when making bags as I prefer to use batting instead. I so would love to try the one-sided flex foam the next time I make a new purse for myself.

  98. Eve says:

I’ve used fusible midweight, but don’t have too much experience with any other interfacing. Would love to try the foam kind.

  99. Daryl says:

I do like SF 101 and want to try the various foam interfacing that Pellon makes too, especially the fusible ones. However, Pellon’s foam is only 20″ wide, Soft and Stable is 58″ wide. While the Pellon is less per yard, you would need to buy 2 1/2 yards to equal one yard of Soft and Stable. Maybe Annie will come out with a fusible too? I do like that Pellon products are made here in the USA.

  100. Linda Sutherland says:

Thanks for testing and reviewing this product. I usually shy away from fusibles, preferring spray baste, if I need to secure before seeing. I have used Soft and Stable, but might give the Pellon products a try.

  101. Emily C. says:

I love Peltex. it’s a pain to work with, but there’s really nothing else like it.

  102. Tina Short says:

This looks really exciting. I”ll have to make a bag soon.

  103. Phyliss Jaffe says:

Sarah, can you give an example of when you would use Soft and Stable or Flex Foam?

  104. Jan N. says:

I’ve been using Pellon interfacing since I learned to sew when I was a pre-teen (many years ago). Can’t wait to try the new Pellon Flex Foam and hopefully Joann’s will get it in their stores soon.

  105. Angelia L. says:

The only fusible I use is Shape Flex. I have used Soft & Stable to make a few bags and love it! I would like to give Flex Foam a try.

  106. Jill says:

Thank you for the review! I use a lot of the SF101 in my bags as well as the sew in foam. Can’t wait til the fusible foam comes out.

  107. Rachel says:

I buy sf101 by the bolt for my bags, but the new flex foam is quickly becoming a favorite! I can’t wait for the new art case, it should be perfect for my artistic kids! I should probably try the supply case before it comes out, so I’m prepared…it’s on my (never ending) list!

  108. Carissa says:

I have used the regular Pellon flex foam and have made it fusible with Wonder Under and I love it! I would love to give the fusible a try as you said it’s a bit thicker and that would make some of the structured bags I make more sturdy! Btw, I love your patterns and your fabrics!

  109. beth says:

I used Pellon Fusible foam for the first time in a clutch last week and I really like it. I have also used Pellon Sheerweight fusible a LOT in quilts made from very fragile recycled Indian saris. It performs beautifully in those quilts. Thanks for a great giveaway! If I win, these products will be put to use in our sewing class for refugee women!

  110. Rickie says:

I’ve been wanting to try a bag using fusible foam. Thanks for the great give away

  111. Karen says:

I’ve used a pelon product in the past (glue on both sides) which has worked well for me. Would love to try this new foam product. Thanks for the review.

  112. barbarag97 says:

I use Pellon products a lot! By the bolt! Shape flex 101 the most lately but Peltex makes me sing!

  113. Shanna says:

I love & hate interfacing, I love the structure, but HATE the “crinkle”! I use Pellon shape flex quite often and I like using the Pellon fusible fleece. I’m excited to try the foam and crossing my fingers that it won’t crinkle!

  114. Gabrielle Robles says:

    Thanks for the review.

  115. Emina Cenanovic says:

Thanks for honest review. I have to admit that I was and still am intimidated by interfacing of any kind, have used it and remember the moment you realize you did something wrong. Horror! This seems like a good choice for a bag. Thanks

  116. jane d says:

I haven’t used any fusible foam but would love to try this!

  117. Cheryl says:

I really like the SF101 Shape Flex and use quite a bit of it. I am excited to find the Flex Foam and make some bags!

  182. Marilyn Wayland says:

I’ve been making bags for about a year and based on your recommendation for Soft and Stable (Thank you!) which I love, I use that exclusively for bags but it is expensive. I’ve used shape flex 101 quite a bit and the Pellon fusible and thermal interfacing for bags and table runners. I’m really looking forward to Pellon’s new product. For interfacing I go to JoAnne’s because of convenience but buy my fabric, thread, zippers and patterns online.
    Best,
    Marilyn

I’d love to get this sampler pack, since I haven’t been able to try any Pellon product yet (it’s not available in Spain 🙁 ).

By the way, the Ultimate Art Organizer looks great 🙂 Going to buy it the moment it’s out 😉

And I have a question, I’ve been struggling with the problem you were mentioning in your post (the wrinkly look the bag gets after all the manipulation and inside-out turnings). I have no idea how to solve it and I’ve been searching on the internet for a solution but I haven’t found anything on this matter, it seems no one experiences this ?? (that’s why I’m asking this here, since it’s the first time I found someone talking about this issue). It’s really frustrating to end up with a wrinkly-bubbly bag after all the effort making it! I’d appreciate some help!
    Thanks 🙂

  205. I have used Soft and Stable but interested to hear there is a version by Pellon.

  206. Amy Harward says:

I love Shape Flex, but I have been wanting to try a foam core stabilizer for a while now! So glad that Pellon is finally making some! I have an organizer on my to-make list that it would be perfect for!

  207. I used to love Pellon 931 midweight fusible interfacing, but the last time I used it, it didn’t iron as smoothly as I wanted it to. So now I’m loving Shapeflex. I’m super excited to try the new fusible flex foam!

  208. Laura McFall says:

My plans for the flex foam start with a simple, streamlined laptop bag. But after seeing your art pencil case, I’m thinking I need one of those, too. My pencils are in the box they came in, but your case is MUCH nicer & would keep them ‘in order’ better! Thank you for the great idea and your patterns are all really great!

My new favorite interfacing is the pellon tp971f fusible thermolam plus. I’ve been calling all over town to get the FF78 and FF79 Fusible foam products but No one has them in stock yet. Would love to win some. 🙂

  213. Nancy Helpinstill says:

I’ve used Soft and Stable forever but many times ended up using fusible web to attach it smoothly to outer bag pieces. The idea of a fusible foam sounds like heaven! One less step and product to use! My go-to Pellon for small projects is always 987F.

  214. Karen A says:

I have used several different pellon products over the years in garment sewing. Recently I have used Shape Flex in some bags I have made.

  215. I’m just starting to make bags and am very interested in products that make it easier!

  216. Elle says:

I use SF101 in just about every bag I make. I like the look of soft & stable and flex foam in my finished objects, but I don’t like how I can pull the fabric away. I am eager to try the fusible foam and see what it is like!

  227. Jennifer Merritt says:

I just found your site last night and I could stop looking through all the amazing patterns and finished projects and fabrics and goodness. “swoon” I was up until 2 AM (on a work night eek!) and had to force myself to
put the computer away. Of course, I was back on your site the minute I got home!

I just started sewing about two years ago (mostly bags and quilts so far) and I am So. Completely. Addicted. There is nothing quite as soothing to me as sitting behind my sewing machine making beautiful things for my family, friends and co workers.

I tend to like Pellon 75F and the SF 101 Shape Flex and I really like the shape flex.

Until last night, reading through your Crimson and Clover Train Case post/pattern, I had never heard of the Soft and Supple before and now this: Pellon Foam, too! I have your C&C train case pattern in my cart as we speak and will be downloading it as soon as I post this and it would be amazing to win this pellon Foam to try with your pattern.

I hope I win so I can make your train case, try this new product, and then post you back pictures of the finished project. I imagine when you see all the pictures people send you of their finished projects you must feel like a proud mama. 🙂

  228. I recently used Shapeflex for the first time. It was a revelation! So so much better than the rubbishy interfacing which I had tried in the past. Pellon products are not easily available in New Zealand, but I will definitely be sourcing some more when this batch is finished.

  229. Audrey says:

Sara, I’m so glad to see this post. Being able to fuse the foam would solve so many problems! My go-to Pellon product is SF-101. I’m on my third bolt! And I use Wonder Under sometimes to glue layers together. Also I have at least 80 colored pencils begging me for a snug home. 🙂

  230. Katie C. says:

I’m definitely going to have to try the fusible foam in a bag pattern next time! Thank you!

  231. SonJa says:

I rally like sf101. I am always up for trying new products!

  235. carla says:

You say “I will continue to use both, depending on the project and what kind of look I am going for.” but you don’t really explain what the difference between the end products are. Could you do a post explaining how they truly compare and when you would choose one over the other please? Thank you!

  236. Ginger says:

I’ve not used Pellon in years. I would love to try the foam above and I think they have a 100% cotton interfacing.

I’ve tried Annie’s but would love to have a go at Pellon!

  238. Melinda says:

  239. Karen says:

Decades ago when I made most of my own clothes, I used Pellon for interfacing–the sew in kind. I don’t think the fusible was even available yet. Now I know why I’ve put off making some zip pouches–just waiting for fusible flex foam 🙂

  240. debbie says:

I always use Pellon sew in interfacing. The foam looks fun. Thanks for the chance to win.

  241. Carol Meyer says:

I’ve used different types of Pellon when sewing totes and weekender bags. I have never used the foam kind, I’m excited to try it out though.

  242. I use a TON of SF101, but I also use a lot of 808 and thermolam. I love the foam but haven’t tried their product yet.

  243. Holly D says:

I buy SF101 by the bolt.

  247. Laura Downs says:

My favorite Pellon interfacing is SF101, Shape Flex. I took your advice on one of your blogs and will sometimes fuse multiple layers depending on the project.

  248. Jacklynn Grimm says:

I use their fusible interfacing for small quilted projects and SF 101 for zippy pouches. Thanks for the chance to win!

  249. I’d have to say my favorite is Shape Flex SF101. When I first tried it, I didn’t think it would do much because it’s so thin but it’s really a good product. I’ve tried not using it and have realized the difference. I’ve also used Annies Soft and Stable and I love it. I used it on a 1 hour basket and it worked great.
I’ve been wanting to try the new pellon though. I asked about it at my LQS but they didn’t have it in yet.

  250. Susan Samuel says:

I have never tried this, but am aiways willing to give things a try.You may come across something that just hits the mark. I like making bags too, so would like to try the fusible flex foam

I always use the craft fuse 808 but would love to try this one!

  258. Rosemary says:

Sara, thank you for the review of the new Pellon Flex Foam fusible stabilizers. My daughter is a special ed teacher and gymnastics coach and I recently ordered fabric to sew a messenger bag for her to use to carry her supplies between school and the gym. I was planning to use a meandering stippling stitch to sew a foam stabilizer to the main fabric, but after reading the posts in the blog tour about the 1- and 2-sided fusible Flex Foam stabilizers, I am looking forward to using them for the support in this bag.

  259. Chris Peterson says:

Thus far, my favorite Pellon product is Peltex 72-F. I would really like to try this Flex Foam!

I realize the contest is now closed, however wanted to comment …. I used Bosal In R Form for a diaper bag on a pattern I’d always used canvas as interliner .. had I not been in such a rush to finish the bag (the twin babies came early and I still didn’t have it done) I would have redone it .. I am not a fan of any of these foam interfacings but I’m sure its a matter of personal preference and what look you are going for .. no doubt it is great for things that you need structure like an art case, or an iPad cover etc but for a diaper bag it had too much rigidity for me and looked “foamy” … I have seen bags made with soft and stable and same thing, I wasn’t a fan .. I went back to my canvas …

I have used the regular By Annie foam and like it. I’d like to try the fusible pellon

I’ve used it before, though I forgot I did… the non-fusible kind. Pellon is a good product, as far as my experience goes. I would love to try all three products!
