Today’s pattern in the Back-to-School series is my newest pattern, but it is quickly climbing the ranks in popularity out of all of my patterns! The reasons why I love it is that it is a quick sew, and that it’s adaptable to carry so many different things. This is the Creative Maker Supply Case! It is available in both pdf and paper pattern format.

These cases were made using several different prints from the Rainbow Remix collection by Ann Kelle for Robert Kaufman Fabrics. You can find these prints at your local quilt shop (fabric stack photo by Ann Kelle) – I found some of the prints online at Stitchin Stash too.
Bree of My Crafty Crap made these cases, and she stuck with the same color story for each case – the small case is pastels, the medium is ‘Bermuda’ or colors infused with brown, and the large case was made in the ‘Bright’ color story. Each was accented with a pretty double-pull handbag zipper from By Annie’s.
These cases are so fun and appropriate, especially in these fabrics, for any age really. We went back-to-school shopping yesterday and I can just imagine my kids’ new supplies laid out neatly in these cases.
The cases were made with interfacing from Pellon: Flex Foam, Shape Flex, and I highly recommend using a piece of Peltex to slide into the lid before the final topstitching, because the Peltex gives the case the rigidity it needs to hold all of the school supplies without bending or collapsing!
The case has mesh and elastic on the inside to hold supplies and pencils, but you can modify it to hold other things (crochet hooks, paints, makeup brushes, whatever you can imagine). I bought my mesh from By Annie’s and my colored elastic from the Ribbon Retreat (1/4″ decorative elastic).
So fun!!

Hi Sarah, I just purchased this pattern. My local fabric store doesn’t carry a selection of longer purse zippers. Can you recommend any on-line vendors that have a good selection of this type of zipper? I would like to buy a small quantity of these zippers, so I would need a vendor that sells zippers in small numbers. Thank you for any help you can share.
