Purse Palooza :: Giveaway : Wives of Whitewood

pursepalooza2014

This post is part of Purse Palooza. For contest rules, full details, and schedule, please click here!

Today’s giveaway sponsors are Ali and Courtney of Wives of Whitewood.  Wives of Whitewood design bag patterns that come with very easy to follow instructions that have 50-100 photographs to make every sewist successful in making these bags.

One lucky winner will receive 4 pdf patterns: Witchy Woman Bucket Bag, Classic Convertible, Tuxedo Trio and the Speakeasy

Our 1970s inspired bucket bag is the classic statement of boho chic. It’s perfect for everyday use and it’s at the top of every trend list for Fall. Witchy Woman looks just as amazing in tribal prints as it does in bold solids.
A classic bucket bag, you can cinch the bag closed with a cord and slide that threads through 12 eyelets along the top band. Witchy Woman has two removable versatile straps so you can decide day-to-day which length you’d like to use. The shorter handle can be used over your shoulder, in your hand, or in the crook of your elbow. The longer strap can be used over your shoulder or cross-body. It also has a large front zipper pocket that would be great for stashing things you need to find quickly, like your keys or phone. The lining features completely customizable inner pockets to fit anything you want to carry.
The Classic Convertible is a fun, convertible bag that can be worn as a shoulder bag or a large clutch. It features a folded top, removable strap, multiple inner and outer pockets, zipper closure, and optional card holder and keychain clip. The finished size is about 10” folded (15” unfolded) x 15 ½” x 3 ½”. We think this bag is especially cool in laminated cotton, which gives it that extra special touch when you’re out on the town.
The Tuxedo Trio is a fun mini-collection of its own. It includes three coordinating items – a hobo, a wristlet and a wallet – all featuring a striking tuxedo pleat panel. The hobo and wristlet have a hidden front zipper pocket and optional inner pockets. The wallet includes a card holder and large inner zipper pocket.
Speakeasy is a chic little wristlet that comes straight out of the raging 1920s. You can add optional beaded trim to dress up any outfit and feel like a modern day flapper. It’s a fun special occasion bag that fits just your essentials for a night out on the town. The bag features a magnetic snap closure and includes instructions to make an optional card holder so you can bring only the cards you need. The front is pieced together in a modern angular design that looks great in both prints and solids.

I really like that first bag.
I prefer to buy fabric from local stores, but if they don’t have what I want, either Hawthorne Threads, Southern Fabrics, or Pink Castle. And if THEY don’t have what I need, etsy.

  2. Sandra Staley says:

I shop for my fabric at my local quilt shop, but she doesn’t carry interfacing so I have to go elsewhere.

  3. Nicki says:

I retail shop at JoAnn Fabrics and Hancock Fabrics. My favorite finds come from the thrift stores though! 90% of my fabric hoard/stash is thrift store treasure.

  4. Peggy says:

I like to buy fabric at my local shops – Bolt is my favorite. I buy online, usually at Hawthorne Fabrics, if the local shops don’t have what I need.

  5. Denise Swanson says:

I like to buy from the couple of stores that are nearest to me.

  6. Shelly says:

I like to buy fabric from local quilt and textile shops. I have a few favorites in Michigan and Nashville TN that I buy regularly from. My husband and I travel the U.S. extensively, very often three out of four weeks in a month, so I love to google fabric shops and check them out where ever we may be. It keeps me motivated to get back to my machine! Just like this Purse Palooza! Can’t wait to get back home and start on another bag to enter into the contest!

  7. Donna W says:

I like to buy my fabric from my local quilt shop – Village Creek in Lodi, WI. If not there, I do buy on the internet – Southern Fabrics or Thousands of Bolts.

  8. Cindy Sliker says:

I buy wherever I land! Usually at my local shop, Always at shop hops and quilt shows! In desperation during winter months especially on the internet! I love making bags, and am in complete awe at the variety of styles all you talented gals have come up with. Thank you for doing this and sharing it all with us in tiny towns!

  9. Magdalena says:

I buy at my local shop. But lately I often order from the US, since many fabrics I like are available in Europe only with a big delay and usally at a rather high price.

  10. SonJa says:

I buy a lot of fabric from Etsy and from Fabric.com. I’m not one to need to buy the newest releases and tend to shop for fabrics tht are $6/yard or so. I only buy good quality fabric, I just wait til it’s not $10-12/yard! My LQS has a $6/yd section and any offline shopping comes from that area.

  11. DeniseMarie says:

I buy fabric from anywhere that’s having a sale!

  12. Meg M says:

I really prefer to buy fabric locally. I like to touch it and hold it up to the other fabric I’m getting. If there’s something I already know I need specifically then I’ll go look online.

  13. linda says:

As we have very few fabric shops in Ireland I buy online or at any shows I manage to get to.

  14. wdhandbags says:

I try to buy locally but my quilt shops don’t stock much of what I like :/ they like to cater to the old school floral crowd 😉 I buy most of my fabrics online.

  15. My favorite was a lovely quilt shop about an hour from where I live. A Joann’s went in and the shop closed, so now the closest places are Joann’s and Walmart. For anything really nice, I travel 2 hours (each way) to my nearest city. Love today’s designs.

  16. Norma says:

I buy most of my fabrics online. I’ve bought from Joann, Fabric.com. , Hawthorne Threads, different shops on Etsy.

  17. wendy says:

I don’t have an LQS so it’s internet buys (mainly) for me. I like The village Haberdashery, Backstitch and Plush Addict. yes, I’m in England.

  18. Christina says:

Mostly online, I like llama on etsy and hawthorn threads.

I try to buy locally otherwise I buy online!

  21. Any time I see a quilt shop~ I hit the brakes! LOL I buy locally the most, but taking trips and visiting new to me places is a very close second. Thanks for the fun!

  22. Messy Karen says:

at my LQS. and on online at FQS and Quilt Taffy.

  23. I usually do the chain store thing, but for special stuff I visit my local quilt shop.

  24. Michelle Fuller says:

Love that Withcy Woman pattern. I buy fabric at Fabric World in Stone Mountain, GA. It’s a warehouse type style where they get their fabrics from wholesale buy outs. You need to dig, but can usually find some really nice stuff for cheap.

  25. liezel says:

I like to buy fabric in the market.

  26. We love to support our local quilt shops when we can! We have two here in Richmond – one tends to carry more traditional fabrics and one tends to carry more modern fabrics so we get the best of both worlds. We do shop online and at the chains though when we can’t find just what we need locally.

  27. Ang says:

I love the Tuxedo Trio patterns. I would love to win!

the only place i have around me to buy fabric in person is a tiny joann fabric. i like to order online from fat quarter shop and southern fabrics.

  29. Paula says:

I have Joann’s and Hancock as “local” options (both about 40 miles away), no quilt shops; so I buy a lot online or at quilt shops when I am on vacation.

  30. Tracy H says:

I buy mostly online. Fat Quarter Shop, Southern Fabrics, Pink Castles, Stash Fabrics, then some from Joann’s and my lqs.

Some of these patterns need to be in my pattern collection! I’m mix of independent local shops and online. I’m having so much learning about all these different patterns during Purse Palzooa!

  33. Betsy says:

I love to shop online. Fabric.com, Fat Quarter Shop, Pink castle Fabrics, and etsy. My local quilt shop is full of helpful ladies and info, but more geared towards a traditional quilter, so I rarely buy fabric there.

  34. tooheycohen says:

I shop at Fat Quarter Shop, Pink Castle, Jo-Anns, and many small Etsy shops. Thanks for the giveaway!

  35. My budget for material is quite small, so I buy a lot of sheets from Goodwill/thrift stores and Walmart, sometimes buying the quilting cotton at Walmart, too. I know, I know. That’s a huge “no no” to most people. But for me to continue this hobby that I LOVE, I don’t have the money to fill my shelves with designer fabric as most seem to do (when I make a commisioned quilt, however, high end cotton is all I use, which I purchase from many different sources. ).

  36. Amy C says:

The Village Haberdashery and Simply Solids.

  37. Linda Fleming says:

I like to buy locally to be able to see and feel the fabric and use coupons when possible.
I also shop online at various stores mto get the latest fabric and because the choice is so huge!

  38. Amy K. says:

I love to buy fabric at two different independent fabric shops in our metro area, but unfortunately, Joann’s is often just way more convenient!

  39. Judy Cinerari says:

I like to buy fabric from my local independent quilt shop but I also frequent Spotlight because they have so much variety.

  40. Caitlin Anderson says:

I love buying fabric from my little local stores, however sometimes they are a little over my price range so I either save or drive over to Spotty cos they tend to have a special on something

  41. Myra says:

I buy most of my fabric online since I can’t find most of it locally.

I buy a lot of fabric from Fabric.com, Sew Lux Fabric.com, The Fat Quarter Shop, and some stores in Lancaster County,PA.

  43. duchick says:

I love these purse patterns! I buy most of my fabric from JoAnn Fabrics. Whenever we travel, it’s on my list to visit (and buy from ) local fabric shops. I usually need an extra suitcase!

  44. Jennifer says:

I love to shop for fabric at Cosmic Cow in Lincoln, Nebraska. The owners are really friendly and are always willing to help. Soon, my friends will open a shop in Chicago called Second City Quilt Company. I can’t wait to shop there!

  45. Beth Schramm says:

I love them all but mostly witchy woman. It’s fantastic.

  46. Beth Schramm says:

Oops – didn’t read the instructions! I would prefer to buy in a store but there is only one near me and they don’t usually have the latest fabric. So it’s online for me, I’m afraid.

  47. Heather Crook says:

I buy fabric anywhere I can find it! Online, local quilt stores, yard sales…anywhere!

  49. Mary says:

i buy almost all my fabric online. While there is one fabric store in my town,,,it’s not often anything that suits my style.

I only have one very small local quilt shop, so I buy there but buy a lot on line!

  51. Emma says:

I wish i could afford to buy more online from the US! There are a coupe of ok quilting shops near to where i live thought that i normally shop at 🙂

  52. Barbara P. says:

My local quilt store, Greenbaum’s Quilted Forest.

  53. Sarah Jane says:

I live in a rural area, so I tend to buy most of my fabric online. If I get into the city, I will almost always stop at the local chain fabric shop, but their selection often leaves me wanting. Same goes for the tiny fabric shop in the town close to me. Although I did just discover a new quilt shop close by so things might change with my shopping habits! 🙂

  54. Jarna Rainey says:

I’d love to try the trio

    1. Jarna Rainey says:

  59. Catrin says:

I try my best to use my LQS but they don’t stock many modern lines so I tend to get most of mine from quilt shows and online (I love de stashes on IG!)

  60. Angie H. says:

I buy mostly from independent stores i town and some online retailers like Fabric.com. I am lucky enough to live 45 minutws from Hart Fabrics, so I go there when I need to

  61. Mary says:

Love tHe witchy woman bag! I buy fabrics in quilt shops and online.

  62. Gayle S says:

There are only 2 local quilt shops, so I mostly buy from them so I can touch and feel. I’ve bought online a few times, but I have had buyers remorse but only because they end up cream backgrounds when I thought they were white! The descriptions don’t always tell you, so I always have second thoughts online, but I do like looking!

  63. I buy at my local quilt shops and online when I need to buy more of something I already have. I always head for the sale section in the store and find what I need there.

  64. Carolyn says:

I have started purchasing fabric at Ikea for bags. Otherwise I purchase locally.

  70. Kay says:

I have to buy most of mine over the internet because of not really having anything nearby, my favourite shops are Fabric HQ and Very Berry Fabrics (both English).

  71. Tiffany says:

    Love Speakeasy!

  72. Carrie says:

Although I’ve done most of my fabric shopping online, I finally found a local shop that carried fabulous modern prints and it became the place I wanted to shop. Unfortunately they’ve closed their doors, so I’m on the prowl for another local shop but expect to continue to find what I like online [Hawthorne Threads, Pink Castle Fabrics, FQS, sometimes Etsy, etc].

  73. Any new pattern is a good pattern. I love purse making because i can customize them however I want.

  76. Barbara says:

I buy at the local fabric shoppes and online, both.

  77. You can’t ask a fabricaholic *where* they buy fabric. The answer is: Everywhere! And when I run out of money to buy it, I cut up and repurpose old clothes.
