Today’s giveaway is sponsored by Alicia of Swoon Patterns. Alicia a graphic designer by trade and fell in love with sewing many years ago. She says: “I think it was a natural path for me to mesh the two and start drafting my own sewing patterns. There’s nothing I like sewing together more than bags, so that’s mostly what I do! I am not much for frills, ruffles, or an obvious “homemade” look (much to the dismay of my 6 year old), so my patterns create bags that are simple, clean and easily modified by the advanced sewist.”
Swoon Patterns has a host of different bag patterns from clutches to weekenders and there is something for everyone. Her bags have a clean, crisp look to them and are just wonderful for showcasing some of your favorite fabrics.
One lucky winner will receive a subscription to all of the patterns in the Swoon Library, as well as all future patterns that are released through April of 2015
Some of Alicia’s awesome patterns include:
A stunning, rockabilly-inspired bag in three different sizes, 10.5”, 12” and 14” wide. Large side slip pockets, a zippered lining compartment, and a removeable crossbody strap make it as functional as it is stylish. You’ll want to make a Blanche for everybody you know.
Slide a rolled up towel or two behind the adjustable long handles and head to the beach, but don’t limit this bag to summer! She’d also be a great grocery tote, yoga bag or weekender. There are pockets both outside and inside to keep your valuables in easy reach.
The Betty Bowler is a vintage-inspired bowling-bag-style carry-all roomy enough to fit anything you might need for a day trip. She is 16” wide and features an exterior zippered pocket, interior open pockets, and piping for a professionally-made look.
A bag to hold the bare essentials for a night out on the town! This pattern includes two clutch sizes; small (11” wide) and large (14” wide) as well as an option to make the small one into a wristlet skipping the handles. All three options include a recessed zipper and can be casual and cute or formal and chic.
My favorite marking tool…depends on what I am marking…if it’s like the markings for an inside zipper pocket, I just use a fine point permanent marking pen (so it won’t bleed if it gets wet later). I frequently use a chalk pencil or even just a pencil.
I have a blue ink pen that wipes away with a moist rag. I think it’s alcohol based… found it at JoAnns. Love it, and I use it on just about everything.
I always use the water soluble purple marker (from Dritz I think), but just yesterday picked up a water soluble blue pencil to try and I want to try the Frixion pens that Janelle of Emmaline Bags often mentions, but haven’t yet.
I like using froxion pens. But in a pinch I’ll use just a mechanical pencil or if I know it will be hidden in the seems a plain old ball point pen. I want to try a Hera marker though!
My favorite marking tool is this disappearing pen in purple that I got from Michaels. It’s the only one that’s worked for me so far. I love swoon patterns. Thanks for the giveaway
I guess Im boring. I just use the chalk pencil. I think Dritz makes it and it comes with all different colored chalk plus a lot of white. My favorite color to use is red though.
My favorite marking tool is a marker set I got at a local fabric store. One marker is colored and used for marking. The other is clear and removes the markings made by the first marker. The color simply diffuses away!
My Favorite marking tool so far is a white pencil that I bought in sewing notions. I have also used a blue marker that is supposed to wash away. I have seen some others as I read blogs and I’m sure my repertoire will get bigger as I sew more 🙂

My favorite marking tool is the reliable fine point mechanical lead pencil. I’ve tried various types of marking pens, but I always return to my pencil.
Love your patterns, now trying to decide where to begin! Just discovered you today. Your patterns are gonna make me look so good because the projects are so professional looking!
I use a chalk marking pencil that is refillable – it is a very fine line where the chalk comes out – perfect for marking straight thin lines and you can just brush it away when finished.
I use the old standard disappearing-ink pen. I had one that was dual-ended, with the fade away ink on one end & water-removable ink on the other and it was great! It finally gave up the ghost & I haven’t been able to find another one I like as well.
I need to find a favorite. I have been frustrated by chalk that doesn’t come out of quilts. I have used the hera marking tool for marking small lines like when I’m making binding and need to sew on the diagonal. I haven’t used it for anything over 3 inches.
I have the best luck with the white Clover marking pen and the blue fine line pen. Not a fan of Frixion AT ALL…IT STAYS ON MORE STUFF THAN IT COMES OUT OF!
Well I don’t like any of them too much, especially for garments chalk and frixion are not great, and most ink pens seem to dry up very quickly. I’m not going to admit that I used a regular ink pen on a dress I was making yesterday… So I’ll read the comments and see fi I’m missing something!
I use an ordinary pen, my ‘invisible markers’ never stay invisible or they dry up before I get a chance to use them, definitely not worth the expense. If it is in a place that will be seen then I use a fabric creaser to make a crease mark that I sew over. I am sure there is a fancy name for that tool but I don’t know what it is 🙂
I switch back and forth on my marking preferences. I use disappearing ink pens, Micron pens, a fine leaded mechanical pencil and my fine line chalk markers. I love Alicia’s patterns and would be honored to win the patterns. I currently have the Betty Bowler cut out to sew for my daughter for Christmas.
I have some chalk pencils I like, but a lot of times, if I’m just tracing out pattern pieces to be cut out, I’ll use a regular old Bic pen. Especially on soft & stable or in-r-form, because nothing else shows up as well.
I like different things for different projects. Plain old pencil, disappearing and Frixion are the top three. Love the Blanche and the Betty bags. Fingers crossed that I win patterns to make them. 🙂
I use them all chalk, pencils, water soluble, air erasable, Frixion, FP markers, Crayola washables. Whatever works for that project. No one size fits all in my book.
Sometimes chalk and sometimes disappearing markers and lead pencils..guess it depends on the fabric. Favorite tool would have to be the Bag Making Bible..I’ve learnt sooo much!
I love the frixion pens right now, though they’re not ideal for every fabric.
My favorite marking tool is the ubiquitous blue fade away marker–but I use it carefully and sparingly.
I found you on Mommy’s Nap time she made one of your awesome bags. Now I’m loving this too Thanks for sharing
Since I’ve found the frixion, I’ve been using them exclusively. So far, so good.
My favorite marking tool…depends on what I am marking…if it’s like the markings for an inside zipper pocket, I just use a fine point permanent marking pen (so it won’t bleed if it gets wet later). I frequently use a chalk pencil or even just a pencil.
I love the air soluble marking pen.
I have just discovered invisible fabric marker pens which proved invaluable for a recent bag project but I have used pencil before now!
I love my friction pens!
Frixion pens used sparingly and for an emotional moment, my moms old chalk runner thingy.
I use a yellow chalk pencil. It’s great!
My favorite marking tool is the mechanical pencil. I can find one anywhere and it’s always sharp.
I use the blue washable pencil.
I use blue tailor’s chalk. Not the most high tech, but it is effective. Thanks for the give away!
I have been using some disappearing ink fabric markers but don’t love them. Sounds like I need to try these frixion pens?!
Love the barrel and coraline bags! The fabrics are great too! Thanks for the giveaway.
I use white tailor’s chalk.
I use a disappearing ink marker — or something one of those that disappears with water. They both seem to work ok!
I love the frixion pen. So nice to use.
I love my pens with the ink that disappears…unfortunately, so do my kids!
I just got a hera marker, its great! i’m using it to help flatten seams too!! I also love the Frixion markers and highlighters
I use my frixon pens, tailor’s chalk and soap slivers.
I have a little soapy square that I use. For my purposes it is perfect, although it can’t draw an extremely skinny line.
I like using froxion pens. But in a pinch I’ll use just a mechanical pencil or if I know it will be hidden in the seems a plain old ball point pen. I want to try a Hera marker though!
Beautiful. I love the swoon patterns bags. they are gorgeous. Thanks for sharing
My favorite marking tool is this disappearing pen in purple that I got from Michaels. It’s the only one that’s worked for me so far. I love swoon patterns. Thanks for the giveaway

I use a blue and another purple mark be gone markers. Although I sometimes use a regular pencil when the marking is on the back and won’t show.
Thanks for the giveway!
I’m happiest using a fine mechanical pencil for marking but occasionally I use tailor’s chalk or a Frixion Pen.
I guess Im boring. I just use the chalk pencil. I think Dritz makes it and it comes with all different colored chalk plus a lot of white. My favorite color to use is red though.
My favorite marking tool is a Frixion pen. I love that is disappears with steam or heat!
I usually use the marking pens that are blue on one end & purple on the others. I use white chalk on dark fabrics
My favorite marking device is my blue marker that says until I wet it.
My favorite marking tool is Frxion pen, unless I need to iron because it disappears, lol!!! I like using a sliver of soap for dark fabrics.
My favorite marking tool is a marker set I got at a local fabric store. One marker is colored and used for marking. The other is clear and removes the markings made by the first marker. The color simply diffuses away!
My absolute favorite marking tool is the Clover Silver Chaco Liner Pen. It’s awesome!
My Favorite marking tool so far is a white pencil that I bought in sewing notions. I have also used a blue marker that is supposed to wash away. I have seen some others as I read blogs and I’m sure my repertoire will get bigger as I sew more 🙂
