shapemoth

My friend, Joanna from Shape Moth, is hosting the Sew Sweet Quilt Along featuring 5 brand new sweet-inspired paper piecing blocks throughout the month of October. I have made one of Joanna’s patterns before, and they are absolutely gorgeous! You can choose to either make a block by itself, or you can make all the blocks into a beautiful quilt. You’ll want to follow along with this one, because the blocks will only be available for free for 1 week after each one is published (after that, they can be purchased on Craftsy). I hope you’ll check it out, because it looks to be a lot of fun!

Laura of Quokka Quilts has released a new quilt pattern called Plum Crazy, which is available right now in her pattern shop. I love the look of this tiled quilt, and it looks great to use for large-scale prints (which is what I like to use for pretty much anything). I’d probably use the new Tula Pink ‘Bumble’ to make mine! If you’re interested, use coupon code Plum20 in Laura’s shop through next Friday to get a discount on the pattern!

soak

Recently Soak, the makers of Flatter, sent me a cute little box of nail polish to play with. I’ve been using Flatter for most of this year (I purchased my last bottle from Pink Castle Fabrics). Before that, I had used Best Press. Best Press worked just fine, but whenever I got some on my hands, it somehow felt slightly sticky. Everyone I knew seemed to be using Flatter, so I finally gave in and tried it. My first bottle I bought was the Yuzu scent, which had a small hint of citrus and smelled quite nice. After I finished that bottle, I bought the Fig scent, which I absolutely love! Of course it’s fantastic for making quilts, but I’ve been using it lately when making bags. I like to give my fabric pieces an extra good press before I fuse or baste to interfacing, and I like to use Flatter. It works great, no sticky feeling, and leaves my sewing room smelling really wonderful (as opposed to scorched foam interfacing, which, as it turns out, smells exactly as it sounds, lol).

Anyway, so, the folks at Soak asked me to have my hand at using the Denyse Schmidt curated nail polishes. My 6-year-old daughter likes to paint her nails, so I wanted to try a look we could do together. I thought I’d try the black and white polishes to try to imitate my black polka dot print from Jungle Ave. called ‘Dotted Boulevard’. To do this, I started out with a couple coats of black, let it dry, then cut off a small piece of kitchen sponge. I used the sponge to tab some small, irregular dots with the white polish.

I’m kind of digging the look. I just made myself a Halloween bag to tote around all of my stuff, and it’s more or less appropriate.

006-2

If you liked this polish, you can find it at Soak, or you can get either the polish or the Flatter spray at Pink Castle Fabrics. Have a great weekend!
