Quilter’s Mixology – Sunrise

This post is part of the Quilter’s Mixology Sew Along. For details and schedule, click here!

Today’s post is from Julianna of Sewing Under the Rainbow. Julianna is also wonderful at sewing curves, and she has some recently-published patterns using the Drunkard’s Path block as well, so I was very excited that she wanted to review Angela’s book!

I’m very happy that I could take part in Quilter’s Mixology Blog Hop! You must know that I’m quite familiar with curved piecing. For sure I’m intermediate, maybe even advanced. So far I made several works using Drunkard’s Path blocks and even designed some patterns using this block.

But when I read chapter ‘Fearless curved piecing’ I regretted that I have not read the book a few years ago! I learned everything about curved piecing by my own, but I wish I could follow Angela’s instructions (very clear), save time and not make so many mistakes. This chapter is definitely the most important in the book and even if someone is already familiar with curved piecing, resfreshing the basics is always an advantage (plus you might find some new things you didn’t know so far about curved piecing). So I strongly recommend Quilter’s Mixology to all those who are still afraid of starting curved piecing or have problems with it, but also to all those who already started their adventure with Drunkard’s Path block.

I also like in this book that it is a source of inspiration. The projects (of different levels) contained in it certainly prove to be an inspiration for many of you to create your own designs with Drunkard’s Path block. Angela by her projects shows how you can use this traditional block to create something completely new. My favorite project in this book is Nine Patch Curves Quilt. This project is perfect for beginners in curved piecing, because it contains not so many Drunkard’s Path blocks and they are big scale blocks (it’s always easier to piece bigger Drunkard’s Patch blocks than these tiny ones).

During Quilter’s Mixology Blog Hop I should make Sunrise Table Runner, but I failed:( We’ve just moved back to our flat and because of the delay in works most of our things are still packed in the boxes (I’m so sorrry!!!). So I grabbed a very few already cut Drunkard’s Path block pieces and made coasters based on the Sunrise Table Runner pattern.
