Hi, my name is Hadley and I am a fabric addict.  I blog over at flyingblindonarocketcycle.blogspot.co.uk, and when Sara asked me if I wanted to join in a blog hop, complete with pattern and fancy ruler, it took about 10 seconds for me to respond in the affirmative!

I was lucky enough to try one of Julie Jaybird’s mini-patterns; literally the size of a postcard, but with all the information you need, including how to use the Hex’n More ruler to make a Jawbreaker cushion/pillow.

The pattern was as clear as can be, and the ruler, well, it’s fantastic!

This pattern is made from (60 degree) equilateral triangles cut with the triangle end of the ruler from fabric sewn in strips.  Totally fool-proof, and so effective.

The ruler can also be used to cut hexagons, half hexagons and jewel shapes, but I haven’t had a go at those yet.  The visual instructions included with the ruler are really excellent, and there is no room for confusion.

My only niggle with the pattern is that it required the piecing/trimming of partial hexies, to make it up to size.  I decided to re-size a little and ignore those extra bits; although when it came to the cutting, these cannot be avoided, but my OCD-eye needed a bit more order for the finished top!

Anyone who follows my blog regularly may remember my troubles with velvet; well this was the cushion I tried and failed on; I much prefer the envelope back I ended up with, so no drama.

I used a selection of Tasha Noel’s Country Girls and Pam Kitty Picnic FQs from SewandQuilt, as well as some dots and Liberty from my stash; simply quilting in horizontal lines using Aurifil 50wt 2021.

This cushion has been residing on the sofa for about a month now, and I love it, especially as it looks way more complicated than it really was.

Thank you Sara for inviting me; and big thanks to Julie for a great pattern and a brilliant ruler, which I can’t wait to use again.
