The Big Reveal – AGF Limited Edition Fabrics

Thank you so much for visiting my blog today! I am super excited because today is the day that I can finally tell you all about my AGF Limited Edition fabric line! This project has been in the works since late last year, and I’m so happy that I can finally tell you all about it.

My collection is called Jungle Ave., and it is inspired by city living. I live in Chicago, and even though it is a metropolitan city, I was curious to explore the softer side of the city. I thought about people living in apartments or in highrises, and how they could still keep potted plants on their balcony or have small patches of soil to plant vegetables. I combined the floral elements of these ideas with the images of asphalt and riding the subway (here in Chicago, it’s the elevated train, or ‘el’). The images of the elephants come in because I wanted to play with the idea of an ‘urban jungle’; the elephants perfectly marry the floral idea with the grittier images of the city, such as the black polka dot print or the fuchsia text print.

There are 8 prints in my line that will be available in the wonderful Art Gallery quilting cotton. In addition to that, one print will be out on a super-soft voile (which is the floral on the black background), and two prints will be available as knits (the black polka dot and the elephant).

I thought long and hard while designing my fabrics; I had to be able to visualize several specific projects that each print could be used for, or it wouldn’t work in the line. I’m happy to say that these fabrics will suit a number of creative purposes and I really feel that they are ‘me’.

I’m also excited to share with you the other two new lines as part of AGF Limited Edition. The first is from April Rhodes and her line is called ‘Arizona’. This is a strong line with bold graphics, and I can visualize each of these prints made into a gorgeous dress from April’s pattern line. And see that green print with the triangles? That one has metallic printing on it. So cool.

The other portion of our little group is Sew Caroline, and her line is called ‘Gleeful’. It’s an utterly charming group of prints that will be great for several projects; my personal favorite is the green scallop print. The colors are so bright and fun too, just how I like them!

This is a big day not just for the three of us, but for everyone on the Art Gallery Fabrics team. I have really enjoyed getting to know everyone that works for Art Gallery more closely, as they are an astounding group of individuals, and I think if you could see them in their office right now, they would all be jumping up and down and cheering. 🙂

So I’d love to know what you think about these 3 new lines of fabric. Which is your favorite print (and it’s certainly okay if it’s not one of mine!). What would you make with these fabrics?

Your elephants in the windy city is totally, 100% going to be the backing for my brother and his new wife’s wedding quilt — they live (and got married) in Chicago and went on an incredible African honeymoon where they went on safaris and hung out at an elephant orphanage and whatnot. So THAT is happening, no matter how long I have to wait to get my hands on some!

    Love the colors

  49. Beth says:

I love your colors. I love the one with words and the one that looks like the CTA transit maps. My favorite is the elephants with the city scape behind them. We do have a Zoo in the middle of the city. 🙂
    Congrats!!!!

  50. Regina says:

My fave is the one that Beth says is the CTA transit map. But to me it looks like fire escapes. I lived in Brooklyn, NY and loved living in the city. My parents moved us to the ‘burbs early on and I miss the city. Unfortunately, my DH hates city living. Oh, well. Also go for the elephants in the city. Prospect Park Zoo is in the middle of Brooklyn. When we moved to Jersey and I saw the cow in the farm up the street, I thought it was a Water Buffalo!

  51. Marcia R says:

I’m happy for all three of you! I especially love the black floral and black dot from your line.

  52. Congratulations! These are beautiful designs. I have to say, I have been following you for 3 years now, and was so inspired I purchased a sewing machine, perfected a few items and set up an etsy shop which supported my family during an unemployment hardship/time. I even asked you questions as a new sewist and you were sweet enough to respond several times. I will be purchasing your prints, love them. Thanks for being so awesome and good luck!

  53. Congratulations! SO exciting and all the lines are just beautiful! 🙂

  54. Plugga says:

  56. It’s so nice that you shared the other 2 bloggers’ lines too! Honestly, I love KNIT so I’m excited that your elephant fabric is boy-ish and coming in knit 🙂

  57. Sharon says:

Sara, I really enjoy the white/black print that almost looks like layered feathers. I want to use this as a binding on a quilt or garment edging. Can’t wait until it’s available for purchase!

  58. Michele says:

That is just fabulous and I’m off to do some shopping. Congratulations.
