Fat Quarterly Issue 16 – My Scrappy Bag

Issue 16 of Fat Quarterly is out today, and I have contributed a bag sewing pattern for the issue. I don’t know if you remember last year that I had asked for scraps from my readers for a bag; here is a later link with the scraps that I was sent. I’m pleased to show the bag that I made with your scraps, called the Friendship Circle Bag.

I always find it challenging to write a bag pattern for a magazine. My normal style of pattern is not well-suited to a magazine (even an e-zine) because I put details into bags that make them into very long patterns. A magazine is not going to give me 14 pages (or even at half that if you take out extra spacing, 7 pages). They’re also not usually keen on many pattern pieces. So this bag takes just 1 pattern piece to print out, and I would rate this as a confident-beginner pattern.

As promised, this bag is going off to a new home today. Out of everyone that sent me a scrap, I saved their name and address (on scraps of paper, index cards, etc.) and drew the winner’s name out this morning. The winner is Ellyn Z. Congratulations Ellyn! I hope you enjoy your new bag. 🙂 Thank you to everyone that sent me a scrap!
