Hey City Sampler Quilters! We bid farewell to the Squares chapter this week with Block #85. Two tiny 9 patch blocks set almost in an Irish Chain layout. I could not resist fussy cutting the Meteor Shower print Tula uses in the book, but as for the light violet print I had zero in my stash and improvised with a light pink Parisville print. I think as long as you keep the value/contrast it is ok to slip on the color a little bit.

Do not get discouraged on the blocks with lots of tiny little pieces! Just lay out all of your pieces before you start sewing and take it one section at a time.
Block # 86 welcomes in the Haiku chapter, which Tula explains is more about final block composition than the shapes that compose them. There are not a lot of repetitive pieces here so a little extra attention when cutting your pieces will be needed. Lay out all of your cut pieces before you start sewing your block together to get your sewing game plan in order. There are not a lot of chain piecing opportunities in these blocks, but if you look closely Tula tries to make it as quick as possible in her piecing diagrams by showing you which pieces will stack together first; for example all 3 pieces with the lady bugs can be sewn to their green strip before building the center of the block.
Block #87 was so easy after the first two! I feel like there may be a lot of these Ladybugs in my finished quilts because I think I have used every color of them, but I couldn’t resist adding even more. I used the same orange shot cotton in the corner that I used in my Block #11 that will sit directly above this block in the Gridlock layout. I hope these little pieces will kind of link the blocks together.
87 blocks down 13 to go!
