The Friendship Circle Bag

So, sometimes often I get crazy ideas for things. Sometimes the crazy ideas end up not being that crazy. I had this idea last night, and it sounded rather insane, so I put it to the side, but it reared its head again today, so I figured I might as well go for it.

I have been asked to contribute a bag pattern to my favorite quilty e-zine, Fat Quarterly. The issue is ‘scrappy’. I have been getting a lot of support from the on-line sewing community lately, from the sickness and loss of a family member, and so I think that’s what’s got me thinking in this direction of where I’m about to go.

I was wondering if a few readers might be interested in mailing me ONE scrap, with which I could use to make a quilt-as-you-go bag for the pattern. The scrap could be 2.5″ squared, could be 12.5″ x 2.5″, whatever. But just one. I have posted a color palette of which I have been crushing for awhile, and this photo is taken from Badskirt‘s blog. Would you be interested in sending me one scrap that falls into one of the color categories in the photo? If you can’t, that’s okay, I don’t expect everyone to be interested (and frankly probably could not handle getting all those scraps into one bag, lol).

The spin, as I will call it, on this whole thing is that I will be keeping track of everyone who sends me an envelope with a scrap in it. I will save your name, and it will go into the finished bag, where I will have my kids jostle all the names around and choose one. The lucky name that they pull will be sent the actual finished bag. I promise that I will try to do a good job.

I just have to interject this before I sign off on this post, but the e-zine issue does not come out for about 4 months or so. Just so you don’t think that I’m banking on you all forgetting, and me keeping the bag. lol.

So, if you’re interested, just comment here and we’ll take care of the rest. And even if you can’t send an envelope, thank you for reading, and for the virtual hugs and hand-holding this week. 🙂

Edit: A LOT of people have replied to this post who are no-reply bloggers. I promise I am not ignoring you, I just have no way to contact you as your e-mail address is not registered to your commenting-account. 🙁

I’m in – if only to rid myself of some of the stash (superhuman strength now required to get the door shut…). While I would love to win the bag, shipping to Tasmania might be a big ask, so am happy to send a scrap but not be in the draw if you like 🙂 am assuming they can be prints?
