Silver Cinema Bag and Coin Purse

I am excited to introduce you to the Silver Cinema Bag and Coin Purse pdf sewing pattern! I wanted to create a project with metal frames, and so the bag requires a 12″ metal frame, and the coin purse requires a 6″ metal frame. I got the frames and the fabric glue from While Baby Naps on Etsy.

For my fabrics, I used ‘Technicolor’ by Emily Herrick for Michael Miller fabrics. I just love this fabric. My husband thought that I had pieced fabric to make the outside of the bag – thank you, but Emily did this for me, lol. Also used to make the bag is Aurifil thread. I usually use 40wt (although I have used 50wt before and it works out fine too).

Finished Size: 12” long x 10” tall (bag), and 7” x 5” (coin purse)

As always, I have some very wonderful testers, some of which had never worked with metal frames and glue before! Thank you testers! Here are their beautiful finishes.

Susan made a lovely gray bag for her tester version. It’s just so lovely and sophisticated, and the finish is also perfect! Wonderful job Susan!

Cyndi of The Nosy Pepper made both the bag and the coin purse. She used ‘Nordika’ by Jeni Baker for Art Gallery Fabrics. Love these so much! I also enjoyed that she used the same fabric for the handle tabs as for the coin purse. Too cute!

Linh from Elvy Crafts made her coin purse out of fabric that looks almost shimmery in the light. It looks just great, and overall a wonderful finish Linh!!

Allegory of A Thousand Needles made her bag in some hoarded Heather Ross ‘Mendocino’. Allegory said that she altered the handles so that the handle tabs would not obscure her patchwork. This is pretty darn amazing! If you’re going to Quilt Market, you might see this bag there.

Teresa made her bag with quite an amazing floral! I really love this! The finish on the bag is also very crisp, it looks just fantastic and wonderful work Teresa!!

Yvette from Black Cat and Birdie whipped up the coin purse in a flash! It is quite darling, and I have to share Yvette’s story about a naughty tube of glue, “Then came the second side – as soon as I took the lid off the tube the glue came pouring out – I quickly grabbed the frame trying to aim it into the gap and not get it on the fabric already in the frame. Then trying to hold the frame at such an angle to keep the fabric and glue apart while trying to put a lid on the glue which continued to gush out of the tube. Choice words were said. Eventually the purse came together and is quite cute. The glue and I are however not speaking right now and he will have to show signs of a change in behavior before we work together again.”

  

Donna made both the bag and the coin purse. She repurposed a sweater that she had previously pieced and quilted, and as the sweatshirt had fleece, she omitted the interfacing. What a creative way to take something old and turn it into something new!

Angie made this freaking awesome stitched owl bag! I also enjoy that the straps are a monochromatic brown, as they really make the white fabric and the owl stand out. Wonderful work Angie, and very creative!

Denise made the bag AND three of the coin purses…you are amazing Denise! Everything looks gorgeous, and now you’ve got a bag and coin purse set, and two extra coin purses to give as gifts! Fantastic!

Mona from Mona’s Box made this amazing bag from Amy Butler fabrics. I adore the polka dot handles, and think that the bag came out beautifully!

Annette made this great coin purse from a fat quarter. I like this fabric a lot, and it got me wondering…how fun would it be to piece little 1/2″ squares (or whatever these are?). lol, just kidding! Fantastic work Annette!

Marta made this adorable bag with a pale lilac fabric, and she’s accented the front of the bag and the straps with purple bows. Seriously awesome!! And of course they go perfectly with the sparkly frame. I love it!

Rebecca made her bag as a gift for her stepmother. She called her bag ‘Forever Summer’ because of the bright floral fabric that she chose. Rebecca recommends using Goo Gone to wipe off any excess glue, and I think that’s a great idea! I think it’s a beautifully-finished bag, and what a perfect gift!

Maria made the coin purse, but substituted a sew-in frame. She also used cotton batting in place of the Soft and Stable. Wow, this is really amazing! I particularly love the hand-sewn detail below the hexagons. Fantastic!!

DeeAnn made both the bag and the coin purse using a warm floral print. They both look so sturdy and prim and proper, wonderful finish on both of them DeeAnn!

Joyce made this amazing bag! She slightly altered the pieces, as her frame was a different size, and she also placed handles at the top of the bag instead. It’s very beautiful! You can read more about her bag on her blog!

Jan made this adorable birdie coin purse. It’s small but packs a lot of punch! She used an awesome paisley for the lining (not pictured), and I really love the bright color combination of this one!

Bernie made her bag in some Art Gallery Fabrics. She said that it’s one of her favorite bags so far! I especially love that she used contrasting stitching on the handles…it really brings out the features of the bag well!

Jennifer made this darling coin purse with Matroyska dolls pieced to the main fabric. She used Pellon Shape Flex to interfacing her exterior fabric. I love this so much, it’s terribly cute!
