City Sampler Sew Along: Blocks 34, 35, and 36

Sew Sweetness

Kim – Very excited to be finishing up the rectangles and moving on to the Triangles.

Lately I have been letting Katy choose the colors for the blocks.  It has been fun to watch how a teenager’s mind looks at color at the designs of the blocks and how it can all come together to make something really beautiful.

GinaBarely skipping by this week with my 3 blocks. I actually just
finished sewing them this morning! Fortunately they were easy enough
to power through albeit a couple upside down prints. Unfortunately in
my exhaustion there is not much I can say about these. I really don’t
want to fall behind so I am going to try to cut out blocks for the
next 2 weeks today. I have found that cutting them always takes me
longer than sewing them on the machine. Hope everyone else is finding
the time to sew their blocks!

Sara – Hi guys! Hope you are doing well with your blocks! I’m sorry that I have not announced July’s winner or August’s prize yet…I promise I will get to it this week!

Block 34

I was really excited to dig into my blocks again because I added some new solids to the grouping. I don’t have a problem mixing solids from different manufacturers, and my problem is that I don’t label or keep them organized, so they’re just a huge stack of colors. Good luck to me when I need to re-order anything. 😉

Block 35

And this week we are getting into the triangle chapter! Block 36 works with sewing a half-square triangle, which Tula instructs you to place both of your squares right sides together, draw a diagonal line down the center, then stitch on top of that line. To finish out the unit, trim 1/4″ away from the stitching, then press the seam.

And here’s my block! Half square triangles can make me a little crazy in large amounts, but for these blocks, they’re easy peasy.

So, if you are sewing along at home, be sure to link up ONLY blocks 34, 35, and 36 in this post (you will have time to link up your other blocks in future posts). Please link up separately for each block. As a reminder, you can link to your blog post, Flickr, or wherever else you are hosting your pictures. You must link up here on this post in order to be eligible for the monthy prize, to be awarded on August 31st!

  1. Yikes! I put the wrong number on Block 34… Urgh!!

  2. I am thinking about using a web host as opposed to blogger, can you tell me who you use and how easy it is to make changes and pros and cons. I would really appreciate it!

Oh, and while I think about it, I owe you an e-mail…

I pulled fabric for these blocks today. (and the three from earlier that I am trying to do weekly to catch up). I need a couple of new solids so I will find them tomorrow and then cut and sew. Nearly all the way caught up.

I wasn’t feeling any love for block #34 until I saw your examples and you completely won me over!
