Emily – Hey everybody, have you been sewing your blocks? Some people sew ahead of schedule, other stay right with the QAL. What do you do? I love sewing each of these blocks and have had a tendancy to run ahead. Sometimes I just can’t stop! :o). It’s easy because each block is different so I don’t get bored doing the same thing over and over.

Something that has helped me to save time and thread is I’ve started using a “leader” and an “ender”. If you’re not familiar with this you can read more about it HERE (http://quiltville.com/leadersenderspf.html). Most people use it when chain piecing but I’ve found it to help with this too. Since these blocks have lots of different pieces I end up sewing a small section and removing it from my machine, then starting another section. This way I can sew a section of block, finish with my “ender” (usually a small scrap from the garbage), then have that “ender” become my “leader” for the next section I sew. I think it’s saving thread but more than that it’s saving my sanity from having all those long trailing threads hanging around.
Here’s my blocks from this week:

Block 25

Block 26

Block 27
Try a “leader” and “ender” with the next blocks. It takes a little getting used too, but you might like it! HAPPY SEWING!
