Kid’s Character Christmas Stockings

Last week (before my kids got sick and the sewing halted for a few days), I decided to sew a couple of stockings. Of course my first instinct was to use some Anna Maria Horner or Amy Butler, but as these were stockings for my kids, I decided to stop being selfish and make them character stockings.

The pattern I used was the I {heart} Pellon Stocking, which is a free pattern available on the Pellon site. I slightly modified it, and used a quilt-as-you-go method (similar to what Elizabeth Hartman wrote about on her blog when she made the Weekender Bag). Instead of Thermolam, I used Pellon 100% Natural cotton batting, which can be easily found at Joann’s (and I heard that they are doing another special on bolts of it this month, if you missed the pre-Thanksgiving doorbuster, wink wink). It is completely my favorite batting.

I utterly love how the super hero stocking came out; I think it’s pretty amazing, if I say so myself. I like the Hello Kitty one too, but I don’t feel the fabrics are as cohesive (I let them pick out their own). But that’s okay. The important thing is that they chose some special things that they liked!

All-in-all, the pattern was incredibly easy to follow, and I liked how the exterior and lining were sewn together at the end. Very easy! And the most important thing is that the kids are happy. 🙂

  8. I love these stockings! I need to make a few to hang on our mantel myself… do I dare let the girlies choose their own fabrics? 😉
