Quilt Market Bag: Echino and Dresdens

::whew:: Sewing projects are done until next week! Here is the bag that I made to take with me to Quilt Market this weekend. Like my dresses (#1 and #2), I had this idea at the last minute. Yeah. That’s looking to be the theme for the week.

I wanted a very big and roomy bag to lug all my stuff, and at 15″ tall, this bag fits the bill. The main attraction of this bag is that it has a cascading Dresden plate across the front and the back of the bag. After piecing, I fused the Dresdens to the main fabric using Pellon Wonder Under, which is a fusible web. I then blanket stitched the Dresdens around the outside, then attached the circle in the corner.

The bag also features a side panel, which wraps all the way around the main panels (although I did not have enough fabric, so I had to piece the side panel into 3 parts, which turned out okay).

The bag is made of 100% Echino fabrics previously cut for this. My beloved and most-hoarded fabrics. 🙂 I am so happy with the main fabric that I chose, the white with the black animals is such a contrast, it honestly almost looks like the animals are done up in black velvet. Just beautiful.

I went with a bit of faux patchwork Echino for the lining. The flap features a magnetic snap, and I used some metal o-rings on the handles to give it a bit of pizzazz.

This bag holds a TON…I was able to fit 2 towels inside of it!
What do you think? Would you like to see this made into a sewing pattern?
