Tula Pink Color Bars Body Pillow

Last month, I made this gorgeous ‘Color Bars Body Pillow’ from Tula Pink’s book, ‘Quilts from the House of Tula Pink’ (you can find my full review of her book here). I am working on a quilt from the book, and I thought the pillow would be the perfect compliment in the same fabrics. These fabrics are from the Birds and the Bees line, and my background fabric is a white-on-white that I dyed myself. I saw on Twitter last month that Tula recently finished her 2nd book, so I definitely have something to look forward to next year!

This post is part of the Craft Book Month blog hop at Craft Buds. I’m going to tell you a little bit about Craft Book Month, and then we’ll get back to the pillow. 🙂 Personally, I thought Craft Book Month was one of the best blog hops last year. There were interviews with publishing editors and authors, projects from books, not to mention giveaways for tons of these lovely books! I just love finding out about new books that have great projects in them. Sometimes it’s hard to tell from the description of the book online as to whether it will be a good one or not, but Craft Book Month took away all the guesswork!

Link up your craft book project at Craft Buds from Sept 23-30 from your blog or Flickr account, and enter to win prizes. Winners will be announced on Monday, October, 1!

To participate in the month-long contest, just link up any project you’ve made from a pattern in a craft book. That easy! One entry per person, and all craft book projects must have been completed in 2012. Just create a new blog post or Flickr photo (dated September 1, 2012 or later) and link back to Craft Buds in your post or photo description.

No time to create a project? This month, just follow Craft Buds and comment to win some new craft books and lots of giveaways!

So back to the pillow! The pattern makes a 60″ long body pillow, which I bought at Target for around $7.50. The pattern is really easy! Each row is one print sewn to a background fabric in a tube, and then cut in alternating spots to make them look staggered. At first I was paying a lot of attention to the layout and how I was cutting, but soon I realized that it doesn’t really matter where you cut, it will look good just about anywhere. I aligned my fabrics in color order, which worked out well with this fabric line.

My family just loves this pillow, I’ve actually been keeping it on the living room couch, and my kids curl up around it. If I watch tv at night, it’s a nice head support. It’s probably getting the most use out of everything that I’ve made!

This pillow would be appropriate for a beginner. It went together fast and easy, and if you have Tula Pink’s book, the pillow is definitely a beautiful compliment to a lot of the other quilts in the book. Check back here on September 25th for the kick-off of the Tula Pink Sew Along…lots of great quilts and prizes coming your way!!
