Echino Zip Pouch

So last night I decided to take a break and sew something off-the-cuff. My life is currently full of deadlines (“oh shut up,” you say), so I decided to spend the evening in my sewing room with the maturity of a child – I splayed my Tula Pink and Echino fabrics around the room, I left my interfacing as-is after I cut out what I needed, and I left my scissors, marker, and scraps on the ground. Basically I did not clean up after myself, and it felt good. Darn good.

So, this pouch is for my English paper piecing supplies for Katy Jones’s class at Sewing Summit. I saw she had suggested a couple sizes for pouches on Twitter, one being a 13″ x 10″ pouch, which is what I ended up making. I originally wanted to make a Tula Pink Dresden plate, but then I thought…that is going to take me hours, and I need something really quick that I can finish before I go to bed (because I decided to start at 11 o’clock at night, how fun).

I drew out my pattern piece on Pellon Tru-Grid, then added the seam allowances for the patchwork pieces. I used some bits of Echino fabrics for my stash. Sometimes Echino is difficult to work into smaller projects because the scale is either on the larger side, or there’s a lot of negative space, but somehow it worked out.

I’ll be excited to fill my pouch up with supplies at Sewing Summit. I’m sort of new to English paper piecing, so I’m semi-clueless as to what else is going to be going into this pouch, lol.

The fabric placement is nice. I like the little jaguar and the bird flying in from the seam.

Looks great! Sometimes we just need something sort of mindless to make (and finish!) to feel better about everything else.

    Nice work!
Now all you need is a teeny needlebook and a teeny pincushion to tie to your scissors…. 🙂 I have a tutorial for those if you prefer to not think while making them. hehe.

I love Echino prints (I have some but haven’t been able to cut into them yet, haha) and I love your pouch – what a great shape! A nice size, too, for carrying supplies 🙂 I just ordered some flex frames (3.5″ and 4.75″) from Etsy – I think your pouch design would be great too as a flex frame bag!
