Quilt Market – Serendipity Studio

The new Serendipity studio pattern, the Sally Shirtdress

Another of my favorite booths at Quilt Market is from Kay Whitt of Serendipity Studio. Dare I say that Kay is sort of a mentor of mine? I don’t know, I guess she is because she certainly knows everything about everything! Especially in the garment-making department!

The dresses on the mannequins in the front of her booth are of some of her new patterns…there is the BeBe Dress, the Fashion Formula Dresses (which is a booklet), and the Sally Shirtdress. The Sally Shirtdress is creating the most excitement (for me at least); even the folks at the Liberty Art Fabrics booth were oohing and ahhing over it. Plus, it is so easy to tailor to your waist size with those pleats across the waist!

I brought all of her new patterns home from Market with me…hallelujah! There is also the pattern for Artful Bags, which are 3 stylish and functional bags that have a surprise inside. And that surprise is that they either have spots inside or outside for markers, crayons, paper, etc…which would be a great gift for a child, or something nice for the artist or quilter/knitter/crocheter (to put sketches, patterns, needles, thread, etc.!).

Here’s a side-glance into her booth, and a photo of one of the new dresses!

I also snapped a photo of a display she had with the actual bags from the Sew Serendipity Bags book (which I have, and have made a bag from, the Ruffled Hobo Bag); she gave me an AUTOGRAPHED COPY for Purse Palooza starting in a couple of weeks!

Voted ‘Cutest Couple’ at Quilt Market: Kay and Keith Whitt

Kay and her husband, Keith, who was at the booth as well, are a lovely, lovely couple. They are also hilarious. We were joking about something and I almost fell down on the floor of Quilt Market crying hysterically.

In case you don’t know, my whole wardrobe for Quilt Market was made from Serendipity Studio patterns. I wore the Kimono Top on the plane, and 2 dresses. My Typewriter dress was apparently very memorable…before I even got up the escalator to Market, I had 2 shop owners run up to me squealing and asking for a photo…of my dress. Yes, I am very famous. Lol just kidding. Although I think wearing the dress definitely made me some new friends…people that had seen the dress on my blog or on Flickr recognized me and said hello. I don’t think that would have happened if I was wearing jeans and a t-shirt. I guess it is a conversation piece…you should definitely have one in your closet too. I think Melody Miller also maybe recognized me from the dress, or let’s just pretend that she did. 🙂

So yes. If you didn’t already buy any of the Serendipity Studio dress patterns when you saw me modeling the dress…NOW YOU HAVE TO. Even if it is your first dress or top pattern, you can certainly do it. The Kimono top doesn’t even need a zipper. I swear to you, you can do it (and if you get stuck I will help you). 🙂

Wow some great designs there! I love the chevron dress! So great you got to meet her and show off your dresses to. How cool being stopped for photo’s! =D

Loving that shirt dress, although I’d hate to think what those chevrons would look like on me – lets say I doubt they’d be straight, and it wouldn’t be the sewing that was the issue lol I’m determined to get a couple of Sew Serendipity outfits made this year though, they may even make it to SLC…

Love that dress. Am thinking katy is crazy and SLC in Autumn is not the place for summer frocks, but she is Scottish and I’m Aussie, so if you see a girl in bikinis with a girl in uggboots and ski jacket hanging out together, it’s probably us…

Wow, I am loving those designs, I haven’t made any garments for myself yet and I’m thinking Serendipity Studio patterns might just be the way to go.

I’m loving that rainbow skirt in the lower left background of the picture- any idea which pattern that is? is it patchwork? so cute!

Oh my goodness I would kill for a shirtdress that actually fit my bazooms. Does the kimono top seem like something that those of us with more real estate in the boobal area could wear?
