Fat Quarterly Quilt in Progress

A fabulous book popped up on my doorstep Friday evening…The Fat Quarterly Shape Workshop for Quilters (I’ll post a full book review soon…for now all you need to know that it is fabulous and worth getting ahold of!).

I had no plans to make a quilt at the moment, as I have a lot of stuff going on, but it hit me that one of the quilts in the book, the Orange Soda Quilt, was the perfect project for some Echino fabrics that I had. I hosted 2 Echino 10″ square swaps last year, so I had a good stock of squares already cut, plus I added a few extra from my stash. There are 70 unique squares in my quilt, with no repeats! The quilt pattern calls for 5″ squares, but I decided to leave my 10″ squares intact in order to showcase the beautiful prints. The quilt in the book also used Echino, which is so lovely!

Up top you can see my pieced 10″ squares. The parts of the quilt in the book that used orange fabrics, I decided to use a great black on white text print for those slices (which I’ll have to enlarge from the template in the book). I only had a bitty fat quarter of this fabric, but was happy to find some on sale on Etsy that I quickly snapped up. Should be coming in the mail later this week. I can’t wait to get this one finished up and quilted…I hope I made the right choice to use bigger squares!

I love scrappy quilts like this that…in theory… use up big pieces from your stash so making “ROOM” in the box for more fabric!! Lovely and bright xx
