Hexing Around the Block

I made this for June’s (oops) block in the Modern Stash Quilting Bee…the bee is over, so this was the very last block that I needed to finish. Yay! I had a lot of fun in the quilting bee, and I learned a lot. It’s challenging having a commitment to other people, for 6 months out of the year (I don’t know how people do it for 12 month bees!).

This block was supposed to be in purples and grays, and I made it using this tutorial from Freshly Pieced. Really great instructions! The challenging thing for me in making this block was that each time you sew on a strip, you need to make sure it is at a 60 degree angle, as well as being the appropriate distance to the nearest seam. I think I did a pretty decent job…nothing is cock-eyed. 🙂

The block took a couple hours to make. I love the purples with a bit of gray. It would be really fun doing a rainbow quilt in this design, with each block being a different color.

This block looks like the kind you need one of those angle rulers for to make sure you have your angle right. Neat block and you can’t go wrong with purple.
