Thrift Store Quilting Rulers

Magic-8 and Triangles rulers

I went to the thrift store again today. My husband is just about as interested in going to thrift stores as I am, which is a good thing. I found a bag of sewing patterns that had been ripped open, on a bottom shelf. Some of the tissue from the patterns was out of the envelopes, and the ones that were still new were definitely not patterns I would ever use.

Dresden Plate and Hexagon rulers

However, good things come to those who are curious. There were 4 plastic quilting rulers in the bag as well, 3 of which were still sealed in the packaging. I don’t have any of these quilting rulers already, and I don’t know if they are quality rulers or not, but I have been wanting to make a Dresden Plate pillow, so I was really excited to get ahold of them! And the best part was that the bag of patterns, including the rulers, was only $5!

Check out your local thrift store whenever you have time. I went in looking for vintage pillowcases or other linens I could use for sewing. I didn’t find anything there, but the rulers made up for it!

P.S. I have already donated those sewing patterns back, lol.

I’m totally jealous of the dresden templates! It’s so much fun to find little treasures like that. I have found the best vintage sheets at a local thrift shop run by a Catholic church (I guess because they have a lot of older people in their congregation)…
I’m looking forward to seeing your dresdens…they are high up on my “want to do” list!

Wow. Great find. Congrats to you. Those are great looking rulers too, especially the dresden and hexie. Very cool.

I happened to find a sale last Fall myself that was from an estate sale. The woman had owned a small quilting shop and taught quilting lessons but had a HUGE amount of stock. I was in heaven and think maybe I drooled a bit as I walked into the auto shop where it was all set up on tables. lol There were rows of about 5 bankquet tables end to end and about four rows of them. Fabrics of all colors and weights plus two entire tables FULL of quilting rulers and templates with many duplicates. Like you I was super excited. I grabbed alot of them and when I got home looked most up online to see what kind of bargain I got. I found there were about $300 worth of rulers/templates I’d gotten for only $30.

Enjoy your new toys and make something pretty.

  8. Very nice! What great finds. Now I’m considering venturing to the thrift store too!
